Founding Engineer

What you'll accomplish with us

• Design and implement the foundational software systems for Pedal's intelligent lab OS

• Build core infrastructure for protocol generation, experiment orchestration, and data flow across real-time lab environments

• Collaborate closely with scientists and machine learning researchers to translate experimental needs into robust, scalable tools

• Develop modular APIs and backend services for managing instrumentation, metadata capture, and AI agent workflows

• Participate in architectural decision-making and contribute to long-term product and technical roadmaps

• Drive rapid iteration cycles, balancing prototyping with long-term maintainability
 

Requirements

• Strong programming experience, particularly in Python (e.g., FastAPI, LangGraph, Pydantic) and/or TypeScript (e.g., Next.js, React)

• Familiarity with building distributed systems, orchestration frameworks, or scientific infrastructure

• Experience shipping production-quality software in fast-paced environments

• Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills
 

Preferred

• Exposure to ML operations or lab robotics integrations

• Prior experience in early-stage startups or scientific computing

• Comfort navigating ambiguity and iterating from scratch
