Corporate Development Internship - fully remote or hybrid NYC
Founded in 2009, Shift began in traditional finance as a leader in the FX space. Sensing the seismic shifts taking place in the financial industry and the disruptive power of cryptocurrencies and blockchain, we made it our mission to make these decentralized trends accessible to every business, from market leaders to small retailers. Today, Shift operates as a financial infrastructure provider, providing proprietary trading and blockchain solutions to its institutional client base.
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Corporate Development Intern. This internship may be completely fully remote, or if the student is near New York City, this could also be a hybrid on-site internship. This is an excellent opportunity for someone interested in exploring the inner workings of crypto exchanges, FX brokerages, and DeFi projects, gaining exposure to executive-level operations, and learning how strategic decisions are made within a global organization.
Internships at Shift Markets are designed to provide students with hands-on training, similar to a university lab course, which enriches the educational experience. The goal is to add professional context to the student’s specialized academic program for the upcoming academic year. A major in Econometrics, Finance (or a related major, such as Accounting), is best suited for tying this internship to an academic program.
The intern will gain valuable experience by:
- Working across business lines to collect, organize, and analyze financial and operational data to support corporate development initiatives and assist with transaction management, including due diligence, and management of professional service providers.
- Supporting review of internal processes to help assess efficiency of operations; compare internal costs to external service providers and weigh benefits of internal development vs outsourcing
- Supporting the preparation and review of financial policies, procedures, and documentation.
- Helping compile materials for external audits and support communications with auditors.
- Conducting research on vendors and assist with cost benchmarking for fee negotiations.
- Aiding in tracking and maintaining internal controls and compliance documentation.
- Helping prepare budgets and forecasts with guidance from senior finance leaders.
- Participating in treasury-related tasks such as tracking fund transfers and cash flow reports.
- Supporting the creation of finance department goals and metrics dashboards.
- Attending cross-functional meetings and take notes on key financial insights and action items.
- Working on special projects involving cybersecurity awareness and fraud prevention within financial processes.
The ideal intern is familiar with the following programs used by our company:
- Microsoft Excel (experience preferred)
- Google Apps
- Notion
- QuickBooks Online
The ideal intern already has these required skills:
- Self-motivated and able to focus in a remote environment
- Proven ability to complete projects autonomously and independently
- Ability to receive constructive feedback to refine and improve
- Adapts well to quickly changing priorities
- Ability to prioritize tasks in a dynamic environment
- Demonstrable research skills
- Financial modeling skills a plus
Qualified candidates meet the following expectations:
- Strong interest in finance and accounting
- Excellent attention to detail and written communication skills
- Comfortable learning new technology tools
- Ability to handle confidential information with professionalism
- Proactive, organized, and eager to learn
This is an unpaid internship for academic credit. This internship requires 10-15 hours per week, and may be fully remote or hybrid with our NYC headquarters. Internships with Shift are conducted without entitlement to a paid job at the conclusion of the internship.
