Duties:
Under the general direction of an Environmental Program Manager I in the Planning Division, the Senior Environmental Scientist (Supervisory) will oversee the activities of the Division’s Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL) and Basin Planning section. The section consists of technical staff responsible for: 1) developing TMDLs and implementation plans for pollutants impairing waters in the Region; 2) reviewing and revising existing policies and creating new policies to protect water quality; 3) issuing navigational dredging permits consistent with the Long-Term Management Strategy for Placement of Dredge Materials in the San Francisco Bay Region; and 4) implementing the Surface Water Ambient Monitoring Program. Specific duties include preparing individual and programmatic work plans, providing day-to-day guidance, reviewing completed work, participating in meetings with interest groups, leading the preparation of Water Quality Control Plan amendments for Board action, and providing supervisory level technical expertise on the sediment and water quality monitoring and assessment. Consistent with good customer service practices and the goals of the State and Regional Water Board’s Strategic Plan, the incumbent is expected to be courteous and provide timely responses to internal/external customers, follow through on commitments, and to solicit and consider internal/external customer input when completing work assignments.

Salary information – CalHR salary rules allow appointment at the entrance rate (Cal. Code Regs., tit. 2, § 599.673) of a classification. For classes with alternate ranges, placement is based on education/experience.
