Surgical Technologist Assistant Professor (60%) / Coordinator (40%)
The faculty member shall be responsible for the following: teaching assigned classes under the supervision of the area dean; helping students fulfill their maximum potential in mastering course content; assessing student learning outcomes; maintaining a thorough and up-to-date knowledge in their regular teaching field; continuing professional development; utilizing current technology in the performance of job duties; maintaining standards of professional conduct and ethics appropriate to the professional position; assisting with articulation and curriculum development and review; serving on college committees and participating in faculty governance including accreditation and student co-curricular activities; assuming other responsibilities as assigned by the area dean; fulfilling other duties and responsibilities of a full-time faculty member.
The department maintains a focus on:

- Collaborating with high school, university, and industry partners to expand opportunities for students.
- Teaching relevant curriculum to train students to be competitive in today’s workforce.
Position Salary Information:
Initial maximum salary placement is based on academic degree, upper/graduate level units earned, and/or related professional occupational experience per the Los Rios College Federation of Teachers Contract (the initial maximum placement is Class V, Step 8). Typical Duties:
The instructional assignment may include, but is not limited to, teaching the following courses in all levels of Surgical Technology at the college in:
- Basic Sciences for Surgical Technologists
- Surgical Patient Care Concepts
- Surgical Specialties
Additional responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Coordinating with other departmental faculty.
- Working collaboratively with the Health and Human Services Student Success Team and Teaching and Learning Leads to improve student outcomes.
- Overseeing and coordinating the clinical experiences of students in the Surg Tech program.
- Working collaboratively with clinical sites to ensure a smooth and effective learning environment.
- Assisting students by providing advice regarding their academic career path and career opportunities.
- Maintaining professional affiliations and/or certifications.
- Working collaboratively with program faculty to assist with program review and planning duties.
- Developing and maintaining curriculum that meets industry practices and labor market needs.
- Effectively utilizing the program budget to meet students' needs
- Participating in advisory board planning and assisting in hosting meetings as scheduled.
- Maintaining office hours on campus.

Minimum Qualifications:
- Be a graduate of an education program in surgical technology accredited by a nationally recognized programmatic accreditation agency completed before January 15, 2026; AND
- Possess a credential in the field of surgical technology through a national certification program that is accredited by the National Commission on Certifying Agencies (NCCA); AND
- Have a minimum of five years experience total, either in the operating room scrub role or as an instructor in surgical technology, or a combination of both, within the past ten years.
