Additionally, this position is eligible for a travel stipend of $15.00 per shift if the employee resides outside of Tooele County.
Schedule: Flexibility in shifts worked as a Resident Advocate is required as Shelter Services operate 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Available shifts may include: 6 am-2pm; 9am-5pm; 2pm-10pm; and 10pm-6pm. Additionally, flexibility is required to schedule and deliver presentations at community events which may include evenings and Saturdays.

GENERAL PURPOSE
The Resident Advocate/Education Support (RA/ES) divides their time between Resident Advocate Duties (approximately 40%) and Education Support Duties (approximately 60%). The division of duties may vary based on organizational need.
This position is a specialty Resident Advocate role. In addition to regular Resident Advocate duties, the RA/ES also represents SVS within Tooele County at community events. Their purpose is to teach the community about healthy relationships as well as domestic violence and its impact. They develop partnerships with different entities to further this goal.
South Valley Services is a non-profit organization whose mission is to provide options to anyone who has experienced domestic and sexual violence. SVS provides free and confidential services including emergency shelter, safe housing, trauma-informed counseling, advocacy, and tools for life.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- •Demonstrate regular and reliable attendance. The ability to arrive on time and work scheduled shifts is necessary to provide the required level of services to clients.
- Answer and manage multiple phone lines on the 24-hour help line; provide crisis advocacy, safety planning support, and referrals and information to help callers with guidance and resources; and document all activities in an electronic database.
- Provide supportive advocacy, active listening, and support residential living needs for Shelter residents, including help answering questions and providing supplies.
- Ensure confidentiality and proper handling of all client information.
- Clean resident bedrooms and bathrooms upon exit of residents and perform tasks necessary to maintain all areas free from health/safety/fire hazards. Basic cleaning tasks include but are not limited to: sweeping, mopping, dusting, changing and washing linens, and sanitizing bathrooms.
- Conduct safety and security checks of residents and property by moving inside and outside the facility.
- Perform CPR and administer First Aid as needed.
- Demonstrate support for/practice SVS strategic imperative of being part of a 360-degree, trauma-informed organization.
- Provide presentations and workshops to community groups, students, and teachers about healthy relationships, domestic violence, and related topics.
- Create and update documentation in a timely manner on services provided which includes data entry to comply with licensing and program needs.
- Attend community events/visit community sites and distribute information to increase awareness of SVS services.
- Learn about all services offered by SVS and educate others on these services.
- Participate in and attend required SVS training and meetings.
- Meet weekly with supervisor to provide updates and reports on progress.
- Provide educational presentations for youth audiences, including high school and Jr. High students, and college students (content will include Teen Dating Violence, Healthy Relationships, and Bystander Intervention).
- Assist with presentations and workshops to faith leaders, congregations, teachers, partnering agencies, and community members (content will include domestic/dating violence and related topics in both Spanish and English, awareness of services SVS provides; Teen Dating Violence, Healthy Relationships, Bystander Intervention, etc.)
- Learn about all SVS programs and act as an advocate for survivors, survivor services, and awareness education.
- Attend community events and fairs to distribute information about domestic violence and South Valley Services.
OTHER DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIE
- Complete other duties as assigned.
- Complete miscellaneous duties to comply with sanitation, safety, health, and licensing regulations.
- Attend monthly coalition meetings.
- Maintain appropriate professional boundaries with residents, staff, volunteers, donors, and vendors.
- Provide information and updates at organizational meetings.
QUALIFICATIONS & SKILL
- Minimum of 1 year experience working with abuse survivor population.
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both verbally and in writing in English.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, and Outlook.
- Ability to create and deliver dynamic presentations with positive energy, with the ability to connect with audiences.
- Ability to work with people of all ages and backgrounds.
- Ability to demonstrate/utilize compassion, empathy, and respect when interacting with residents and callers on the 24-hour helpline.
- Pass and maintain cleared status on a Direct Access Clearance System (DACS) criminal background check.
- Obtain First Aid and CPR Certification within 30 days and recertify every two years.
- Current Driver’s License and acceptable driving record required to drive SVS van and transport residents.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- 2+ years’ experience working with the public.
- Knowledge of domestic violence dynamics and prevention strategies, and trauma-informed practices.
- Experience with public speaking or training.
- Bilingual English/Spanish speaker.
WORKING CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The work environment includes an office environment and a residential Shelter environment. Answering the helpline, talking to callers, and entering information into a computer is required. Moving around the Shelter to perform maintenance and conduct security and safety checks is also required, as is time spent cleaning/sanitizing resident rooms and bathrooms and restocking supplies in common areas. These duties require moving up and down stairs, lifting/moving items to facilitate cleaning and stocking, and moving around outside the Shelter during all weather conditions. Other tasks may be necessary for the maintenance of the Shelter and the safety of the residents.
Must be available to travel throughout Tooele County on a regular basis for job-related engagements.
