Job Title: Lab Consultant (Student Worker)

Department: Helpdesk - Information Technology

Reports To: Print Lab Manager / IT Coordinator

Position Summary

The Lab Consultant provides frontline support for students utilizing the 24-Hour Print Lab. This role assists with printing, 3D printing, workstation use, and other technology needs. Lab Consultants help maintain lab operations, enforce rules, troubleshoot issues, and ensure the lab remains clean and organized.

Responsibilities

  • Student Assistance:
    • Support students using workstations, printers and 3D printers.
    • Provide guidance for software applications including Microsoft Office, 3DPrinterOS, Canvas, Workday, Moodle, Google Suite, and others.
    • Provide after-hours support calls as assigned.
  • Technology & Equipment Support:
    • Maintain and monitor campus printers, including replenishing paper & toner.
    • Operate and maintain 3D printers.
    • Troubleshoot hardware/software issues and escalate via KACE tickets.
  • Lab Operations & Safety:
    • Keep the lab and surrounding areas clean and organized.
    • Enforce lab rules and ensure proper use of equipment.
  • Other Duties:
    • Safely drive and operate a golf cart for campus printer/lab support (requires driver certification and valid driver’s license).
    • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
    • Assist with other building issues (AC resets and flooding issues).

Qualifications

  • Required:
    • Current student status at Louisiana Tech University.
    • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, Canvas, Workday, Moodle, Google Suite, and Papercut.
    • Strong troubleshooting skills and willingness to learn new technology.
    • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
    • Valid driver’s license (required for golf cart use).
    • Customer support skills.
  • Preferred:
    • Experience using and maintaining 3D printers (3DPrinterOS).
    • Prior customer service or IT support experience.

Work Schedule

  • Shifts available 24/7 (including nights, weekends, and holidays).
  • Flexible scheduling to accommodate student class schedules.
