At Bliss Belly Kitchen after school programming, kids will practice breathing and yoga, spend time in nature, make a healthy snack, and get time to do homework and quiet reading. Our site in North Berkeley is just next to Live Oak Park, where children can connect with nature while enjoying playtime and snacks.
We are seeking after school program teachers and assistants for the 2025 - 26 school year. Our program starts August 13 and goes through June 4 with holidays in accordance with the Berkeley Unified calendar.
Location: North Berkeley, near Rose & Shattuck
Position: Weekday shifts occur Monday - Friday from 12:30 - 6:30pm. Weekend shifts are available on call for birthday parties from 10AM - 4PM. Please note your availability in your application. Staff are eligible to work 2 to 5 shifts per week, based on the needs of the program.
Compensation: $22 - 24/hr for Teachers | $18.67 - $21/hr for Assistants
Required Qualifications and Experience for the Lead Teacher
- 2+ years of experience or equivalent as an instructor in an afterschool program, elementary school, or summer camp
- Ability to manage a classroom or up to 25 children using attention getters, rules and consequences
- A love for cooking, yoga and mindfulness
- College degree or senior standing in college
Required Qualifications and Experience for the Assistants
- 2+ years of experience or equivalent supporting an afterschool program, elementary school, or summer camp
- Ability to manage a group of up to 10 children using attention getters, rules and consequences
- A love for cooking, yoga and mindfulness
- High school graduate or senior standing in high school
Desired Qualifications and Experience for Teachers & Assistants
- Ability to do yoga poses and play active games with campers
- Willingness to follow directions, be flexible in a dynamic work environment, and to work in a team. Ok to roll up your sleeves and clean up the kitchen after a cooking demo!
- Fun talents such as games, storytelling, music, arts and crafts
- Commitment to providing an education experience that is child-centered, safe, and inclusive
- Ability to stay calm and keep your sense of humor in a fast-paced environment
- Confidence and ability to take initiative and support your teammates.
- Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills, upbeat, positive, mature attitude and respectful communication approach
- Ability to stand, bend, stoop, sit, walk, twist and turn, and lift 25 pounds
- Able to shop for ingredients at nearby grocery stores (Monterey Market or Berkeley Bowl)
- Food Handler Certified
- First Aid/CPR Certified
- It should be noted that 20% of the position is involved in cleaning of some sort: Dishwashing, vacuuming, wiping tables and counters, laundering rags, and/or taking out the compost and recycling.
