Location: Martinez, CA
Schedule: Full-Time, Year-Round | Monday–Friday, 8:00am–4:00pm
About the Role
Building Connections Behavioral Health is hiring a passionate K–8 Special Education Teacher to join our nonpublic school, Building Connections Academy, in Martinez, CA. This role supports students with Extensive Support Needs (ESN) and involves teaching a small class (14 students) in a collaborative, therapeutic, and inclusive environment. We use project-based learning to spark curiosity and promote real-world application of skills.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs).
- Provide academic, social-emotional, and functional instruction tailored to each student.
- Adapt curriculum and use a variety of multi-sensory, evidence-based teaching strategies.
- Plan and lead engaging project-based learning experiences that promote independence.
- Collaborate with BCBAs, Paraprofessionals, and related service providers.
- Implement behavior support plans and positive reinforcement systems.
- Track progress and provide regular updates to families and IEP teams.
Qualifications:
- Required: Bachelor’s degree.
- Required: Valid California Special Education Credential (ESN / Moderate/Severe) or;
- Eligibility to obtain an teaching permit such as a Provisional Internship Permit, PIP, or a Short-Term Staff Permit, STSP with the Commission on Teaching Credentialing, CTC. See more information about these permit's and how to obtain them at www.ctc.ca.gov.
- Required: Experience working with students with moderate to severe disabilities, especially in K–8 settings
- Required: Familiarity with ABA principles, assistive technology, and differentiated instruction.
- Preferred: Master’s degree.
- Preferred: Strong knowledge of IEP development, inclusive practices, and team-based supports.
