Established in 1937, the Housing Authority of the City of Austin (HACA) is a national leader in providing safe, healthy and affordable housing options for the Austin community. HACA’s mission is to cultivate sustainable affordable housing communities and partnerships that inspire self-reliance, growth and optimism.

 

Austin Pathways is seeking a motivated and service-oriented intern to support its Family Self-Sufficiency (FSS) Program, which provides individualized support to residents in the Housing Choice Voucher Program as they work toward economic independence and personal goals. HACA has been a leader in affordable housing in the City of Austin for more than 85 years. In partnership with the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, local government entities, and numerous non-profit agencies, HACA provides access to safe, stable housing to over 20,000 individuals.          

 

What you will do in this position:

This internship provides a hands-on learning experience in community engagement, program implementation, and resident services, ideal for students or recent graduates interested in public service, social work, or nonprofit management.

 

Key Responsibilities

Program Assistance

  • Support the planning and delivery of programs that promote digital literacy, job readiness, and educational advancement
  • Assist in organizing and coordinating workshops, events, and training sessions
  • Help facilitate community outreach events and educational workshops
  • Collect and analyze program data to measure participation and outcomes

Community Engagement

  • Maintain communication with residents and community partners about program updates, resources, and events
  • Assist in coordinating and supporting volunteer activities and trainings
  • Represent HACA at outreach events and provide information about available services

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a college or university program (Social Work, Public Administration, Nonprofit Management, or related fields)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and basic knowledge of Google Workspace
  • Interest in community service, social justice, and economic empowerment
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • Ability to provide compassionate, professional service to individuals from diverse backgrounds
  • Experience with event planning, outreach, or volunteer coordination
  • Bilingual (Spanish/English) is a plus
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational and multitasking skills

Schedule:

  • Three (3) days in-office per week
  • 8-hour shift
  • September 2, 2025 – December 12, 2025
