Captain - Corrections

Oneida County is seeking a highly motivated and experienced individual to serve as the Captain for the Corrections Division of the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office. 

 

JOB DUTIES: This leadership role is responsible for planning, organizing and overseeing daily operations within the Corrections Division of the Oneida County Jail.  Duties include ensuring compliance with all laws, policies and procedures, evaluating staff, managing budgets, overseeing inmate housing, booking, release and transportation, handling staff training, inmate discipline and contract services such as medical care and food service. This position also collaborates with external agencies and provides representation of the division in various meetings. 

 

EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS: Qualified candidates must have an Associate’s Degree, at least five years’ experience as a Corrections Officer or related field and have State Certification as a Corrections Officer. The ideal candidate must have strong leadership, communication and decision making skills, a valid Driver’s License with no restrictions, good knowledge of computers and be able to keep accurate records and detailed reports.      

 

WAGES AND BEENFITS:   Starting 2025 salary at $74,638 to $102,361 plus excellent benefit package including Wisconsin Retirement System benefits, affordable health, dental and vision insurance, life insurance and short-term disability coverage and generous PTO (Paid Time Off) allotments with the ability to carry over unused PTO hours into future years. 

 

WORK HOURS AND SCHEDULE:  This salaried position works at least 40 hours per week, mostly weekdays with the occasional need for evenings and weekends based on the demands of the position.  This position may need to be on-call at times.
