Intern - Operations Standards

SUMMARY OF JOB RESPONSIBILITIES AND REQUIREMENTS

 

JOB TITLE: Intern- Operations Standards 

REQUISITION:  DIS00UM

DEPARTMENT: Distribution Standards & Support – Topeka General Office or F&M Service Center 

LOCATION: Topeka, KS

                              Kansas City, MO

PAY RANGE: $22.00 - $27.00

 

Internship Position for Summer 2026

Scheduled Work Hours: Monday - Friday, 7:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

We provide a number of intern events throughout the summer to burn some extra energy, including volunteer events, power plant tours, lunch and learns, and more

 

Intern Description:

Our group is responsible for all aspects of standardizing distribution line equipment and construction standards development. Interns may help create, document, and/or maintain standardized designs and assist with material specification, review, and selection. This position will require interfacing with manufacturer representatives as well as many other workgroups including field operations, design, supply chain planning, and purchasing.

 

Job tasks include but not limited to:

  • Analyzing components of standard distribution designs
  • Researching/Reviewing distribution system products
  • Establishing new item records in appropriate systems

 

Education and Experience Requirements:

Candidate must be currently enrolled in a university program in one of the following or a related technical field: Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering. 

 

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities Required:

  • Good computer skills and a working knowledge of word processor and spreadsheets will be required. 
  • Must be able to evaluate and apply problem-solving techniques to unfamiliar situations. 
  • Must have demonstrated good organizational skills, excellent oral and written communication skills, and the ability to work effectively with others in a team environment. 
  • Other required skills include routinely demonstrating initiative and self-motivation.

 

Working Conditions:

Conditions will vary from office to field environments including sub-transmission/distribution line field locations and substations with the majority of hours in normal office conditions.
