Summary

The National Energy Improvement Fund, LLC is a Certified B Corp™ where values matter, and your voice helps shape the future of energy lending. We are seeking a qualified candidate for the role of Energy Lending Specialist for this exciting venture. This role reports directly to the VP, Lending and Programs. Energy Lending Specialists play an essential role in the loan approval process by evaluating the financial status of an applicant and determining the creditworthiness of the borrower. The ideal candidate has experience with energy efficiency lending and working with consumers, contractors and program partners. This role requires consistent and proactive communication with consumers to guide them through the loan process, including gathering necessary financial documents, reviewing applications for completeness, discussing loan terms, and issuing loan documents. A strong customer service approach is essential to ensure borrowers understand their financing options, meet program requirements, and successfully complete the lending process.

Additionally, the Energy Lending Specialist will work closely with contractors to collect project estimates, verify program eligibility, and ensure energy-efficient products meet required efficiency ratings. This includes reviewing product specifications, clarifying financing guidelines, and facilitating a smooth transaction between homeowners and service providers. The ability to clearly explain loan terms and technical requirements to both consumers and contractors is crucial to maintaining NEIF’s high standard of service and efficiency in energy lending.

Job Requirements:

• Ability to learn and maintain knowledge of all residential loan program offerings
• Willingness to work as part of a team to achieve department and company goals
• Strong verbal and written communication skills, with a focus on customer service to efficiently review loan applications and communicate with all involved parties
• Strong attention to detail
• Review and analyze borrower information to ensure proper adherence to underwriting guidelines
• Excellent analytical and critical thinking skills. Ability to recognize potential red flags, inconsistencies within file documentation and other problem areas and initiate proper mitigation action
• Excellent time management skills and the ability to set and shift priorities as needed, to work under time and deadline pressure, and to effectively manage a pipeline of loans
• Current knowledge of applicable lending regulations, including, but not limited to, consumer closed end credit
• Perform duties diligently and with efficiency to meet funding goals that mirror NEIF’s forecasted volume
• Be mindful of NEIF’s mission to promote energy savings by increasing the affordability of energy efficiency and renewable energy improvements for consumers and businesses, and that loan volume translates to saved energy, which benefits both our communities and our environment

Who You Are:

• A recent college graduate or professional with up to 3 years of experience in consumer loan underwriting or financial services.
• A clear and confident communicator—both written and verbal—with a strong commitment to customer service.
• Highly organized and self-motivated, with excellent time management and the ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
• Detail-oriented with strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
• Tech-savvy and adaptable, with the ability to learn and use new platforms and tools.

Qualifications:

Required:

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
• Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
• Detail-oriented with strong organizational and time management skills.
• Customer-focused and team-oriented.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).

Preferred:

• 2-3 years of experience with consumer loan underwriting preferred
