Lab Technician, ITS
Position Type: Federal Work Study or Non-Work Study
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
- The Cybersecurity Lab Technician will support the operation, maintenance, and security of the C&IS Department's cybersecurity lab.
- The role involves configuring lab environments, ensuring system integrity, and supporting students during hands-on technical exercises.
- The technician will also help maintain cybersecurity tools, simulate attack/defense scenarios, and assist in the documentation of lab procedures.
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications:
- Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program in Cybersecurity, Information Systems, Computer Science, or a related field.
- Basic knowledge of networking concepts (TCP/IP, DNS, firewalls, VLANs).
- Familiarity with operating systems (Windows, Linux) and virtualization platforms.
- Understanding of cybersecurity fundamentals (threats, vulnerabilities, risk mitigation).
Preferred:
- Experience with cybersecurity tools (e.g., Wireshark, Nmap, Metasploit, Snort, Splunk).
- Knowledge of scripting languages (Python, Bash, PowerShell) for automation.
- Prior participation in cybersecurity competitions (e.g., NCAE Cyber Games, CTFs, NCL, CyberPatriot).
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical users.
- Attention to detail and adherence to security protocols.
- Strong organizational and documentation skills.
- Team-oriented with good communication abilities.
