Lab Technician, ITS

 

Position Type: Federal Work Study or Non-Work Study

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities 

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following: 

  • The Cybersecurity Lab Technician will support the operation, maintenance, and security of the C&IS Department's cybersecurity lab.
  • The role involves configuring lab environments, ensuring system integrity, and supporting students during hands-on technical exercises.
  • The technician will also help maintain cybersecurity tools, simulate attack/defense scenarios, and assist in the documentation of lab procedures.

 

Requirements

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program in Cybersecurity, Information Systems, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Basic knowledge of networking concepts (TCP/IP, DNS, firewalls, VLANs).
  • Familiarity with operating systems (Windows, Linux) and virtualization platforms.
  • Understanding of cybersecurity fundamentals (threats, vulnerabilities, risk mitigation).

Preferred:

  • Experience with cybersecurity tools (e.g., Wireshark, Nmap, Metasploit, Snort, Splunk).
  • Knowledge of scripting languages (Python, Bash, PowerShell) for automation.
  • Prior participation in cybersecurity competitions (e.g., NCAE Cyber Games, CTFs, NCL, CyberPatriot).

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical users.
  • Attention to detail and adherence to security protocols.
  • Strong organizational and documentation skills.
  • Team-oriented with good communication abilities.

Anticipated Schedule:

  • Tues, Thurs, and as needed.
