Social Work Intern
Position Summary:
The goal of Social Work Intern is to support The Fortune Society’s Better Living Center and provide access to mental health services for individuals with a history of criminal justice involvement by completing psychosocial assessments, group and individual therapy, initial treatment plans and treatment plan reviews, documenting billable clinical notes, conference treatment with an interdisciplinary clinical team, detailed knowledge of clinic regulations, and relevant trainings. The intern will develop skills beneficial to a new social worker, focused on a population with mental health and/or substance use concerns.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Conduct initial psychosocial and other assessments
- Develop a therapeutic alliance with clients
- Provide ongoing individual counseling and weekly group counseling
- Write and update individual client-based, goal-orientated treatment plans following agency guidelines and timeframes
- Maintain proper case records, with all case notes completed within 48 hours of interaction
- Maintain on-going clinical communication with supervisor
- Communicate with other Fortune staff members in the same and other programs/locations that share common client(s)
- Provide linkages to outside agencies for additional services
- Participate in case conferences and clinical supervision meetings
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in dealing with either psychiatric issues, trauma or incarceration desired
- Experience with population of substance use and/or mental health preferred
- Must have computer skills including Microsoft Office
- Comfortable with talking about sensitive topics with our community members
- Excellent organizational and interpersonal/communication skills
- Must have a high level of sensitivity toward the population served by The Fortune Society and the ability to assist them without bias
- Bilingual is Spanish preferred
