REPORTS TO: Borderlands and Migration Director
JOB SYNOPSIS:The Borderlands Education Coordinator assists the Borderlands and Migration Director in developing and coordinating educational Learning Tours (LTs) for MCC constituents and partners. These immersive experiences are designed to engage participants with migration, justice, and peacebuilding realities in the U.S./Mexico borderlands.
This position will focus on aspects of Learning Tour planning, from participant recruitment and partner collaboration to logistics and educational material development. The Assistant will work closely with the Borderlands and Migration Director and relevant internal and external partners to create meaningful, justice-oriented experiences that inspire action and connection.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
50% Learning Tour Planning

Tour Design & Planning:
- Develop and maintain a calendar of 2+ annual Learning Tours in coordination with the Director.
- Work with local partners, faith-based organizations, and agencies to build educational content rooted in migration, justice, and peacebuilding.
- Develop tour themes, objectives, and educational frameworks.

Recruitment and Registration:
- Collaborate with Communications and related teams to promote tours.
- Manage participant registration, including website updates, applications, and approval of workflows.

Logistics Management:
- Coordinate all LT logistics, including accommodations, transportation, meals, schedules, and partner visits.
- Serve as on-the-ground support for LT execution and partner coordination during the week of the tour.

Educational Resource Creation:
- Design and distribute pre-tour educational materials to prepare participants.
- Develop on-site facilitation guides, reflection prompts, and educational sessions.
- Produce follow-up materials to deepen learning and encourage the next steps in advocacy and engagement.

Follow-up and Engagement:
- Provide post-tour debriefing materials and surveys.
- Offer pathways for ongoing action: advocacy, volunteering, giving, and community education.
- Connect participants with local and national networks within their home communities.
40% Networking and Collaboration
- Build relationships with organizations offering similar border immersion experiences. Document best practices, protocols, and budget models.
- Coordinate with MCC’s internal contacts (e.g., Connecting Peoples Coordinators, Communications, Immigration Network) to align learning tour strategies and adopt best practices.
- Collaborate with local coalitions and migration-focused partners for on-the-ground insights and content.
- Maintain a database of partner protocols, LT budgets, and educational offerings for shared use across MCC.
10% Assist director in administrative tasks
- Program data entry
- Research grants
- Create Newsletter, LT alumni communications, resource previous LT participants
- Partner engagement and support
Supervision: Does not have supervision responsibilities.
Travel expectations: Travel up to 10% locally

QUALIFICATIONS:

Essential:
- Passion for migration justice, peacebuilding, and education
- One year or more experience in event or program coordination (preferably within faith-based or justice-focused contexts)
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail
- Excellent written and verbal communication and facilitation abilities
- Ability to collaborate cross-culturally and respectfully with diverse stakeholders
- Comfortable managing logistics in dynamic environments
- Proficiency in Spanish with ability to do interpretation with groups.
- Comfortable driving 12 passenger van. Valid U.S. driver’s license with acceptable driving record and eligible to be an MCC authorized driver as defined by policy, insurance, and legal requirements.
- Over 3 months relevant experience MS Office suite, database entry, internet and e-mail management
Employment eligibility: Legally eligible to work in the U.S. MCC offers of employment are subject to a successful criminal background check(s).
Preferred:
- Familiarity with border/migration issues and trauma-informed practices.
- Bachelor’s degree.
- One year or more of work experience in the area of immigration.
- One year or more of work or volunteer experience working with volunteers.
