SUMMARY
The Society of St. Vincent de Paul Detroit exists to build a more equitable and compassionate world through meaningful personal relationships, providing whatever is needed to help our neighbors get back on their feet and on a path towards self-sustainability. Our programs provide support ranging from utility, housing, clothing, and food assistance to education and mentorship. We are passionate about driving systemic change and helping our neighbors in Metro-Detroit break out of poverty.
This position will lead the organization’s grant strategy, research funding opportunities, and develop compelling proposals to drive our philanthropic support. You will play a crucial role in building our financial sustainability to expand our services to prevent homelessness.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Manage the grant application process from start to finish, including submission and follow up.
- Research, prospect, prepare, submit, and manage grant proposals with funding sources, including government agencies, foundations, and corporations.
- Help to initiate/facilitate meetings between leadership and funding sources to cultivate relationships.
- Coordinate with leadership team and program staff to learn about current and future funding needs.
- Write compelling impact reports for existing funders highlighting program outcomes and successes.
- Develop and submit grant reporting as required by funders.
- Maintain grant records, including contact information, due dates, reporting requirements and outcomes.
- Write and submit grants for new funds and to re-apply to current foundations and corporations.
- Develop budgets for grant proposals in collaboration with Program Directors and accounting team.
- Maintain a timeline for applications and reports and ensure timely submission of applications and reports.
- Write donor ask letters and proposals.
- Enter data into our Raiser’s Edge database to track potential grants/donors, applications, awards, and reports.
- Help create process documents across the organization.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism or related field required
- One to three years in grants management field and have secured grants from foundations, corporate, and government sources.
- Knowledge of Metro Detroit area non-profit funding sources.
- Able to work well in a team environment, handle multiple assignments and meet deadlines.
- Excellent written communication skills, with an ability to write clear, structured, articulate, and persuasive proposals.
- Strong editing skills.
- Keen attention to detail, highly organized and a mindset for thoroughness.
- Ability to juggle and meet multiple competing deadlines.
- Knowledge and familiarity with research techniques and resources for grant prospecting.
- Strong contributor in team environments.
- Compensation based on candidate’s level of experience and on-the-job performance after 90 days.
