Volunteer Coordinator

We’re hiring a Volunteer Coordinator to recruit, train, and support volunteers engaging in deep canvassing across rural Ohio. This is not traditional canvassing; deep canvassing is an emotional, story-based form of engagement that requires trust-building, active listening, and meaningful dialogue. Volunteers will be supporting both utility-scale solar and voter contact work.

The Volunteer Coordinator will be responsible for building and sustaining a statewide team of volunteer canvassers, with a focus on rural communities, and making sure they’re trained, supported, and ready to have conversations that shift hearts and minds.

Key Responsibilities

  • Recruit, onboard, and manage a statewide team of volunteer deep canvassers
  • Lead in-person and virtual deep canvassing trainings, including role-plays and story-sharing
  • Plan and execute canvass launches, debriefs, and volunteer gatherings
  • Maintain communication and ongoing support with volunteers to keep them engaged and active
  • Track volunteer participation and canvassing outcomes
  • Coordinate closely with OCA’s Rural Projects Coordinator and campaign team to integrate volunteer canvassing with campaign goals
  • Travel regularly to support canvassing and organizing efforts, primarily in rural counties
  • Help build public support for utility-scale solar and increase voter engagement in targeted areas
  • Remote position, but it includes regular travel throughout Ohio to lead volunteer training,
    canvassing events, and community meetings.

Qualifications

  • Must live in Ohio and have a valid driver’s license and reliable access to a car
  • Previous experience coordinating volunteers in an organizing or campaign setting
  • Must have experience with deep canvassing, either as a canvasser or trainer
  • Strong communication skills and comfort working with people from all backgrounds
  • Experience leading trainings, managing groups, and working independently
  • Comfortable working remotely while staying organized and responsive
  • Willing and able to travel frequently within the state, sometimes with overnight stays
  • Demonstrated successful interpersonal skills
  • Problem-solving ability and attention to detail

Compensation and Benefits

  • $35,000–$45,000 annual salary, depending on experience
  • Monthly work-from-home stipend
  • Mileage reimbursement for all work-related travel
  • Medical, Dental, Vision and other ancillary benefit options available.
