Role Overview:
Under the direction of a Production Supervisor and Production Shift Lead chemist, the Kilo Chemist works on manufacturing Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (APIs) in support of the business unit while meeting local, state, and federal quality and safety regulations.
Core Responsibilities:
Independently synthesize, purify, and isolate chemical intermediates and active ingredients.
Communicate with Shift Leader regarding safety, production, quality, or any other operational issues on shift.
Actively participates in pre-shift meetings to develop individual work plans.
Completely and accurately record data such as temperature of equipment, hours of operations, raw materials, and pressure of large-scale reactors in accordance with good documentation practices.
Exhibit an elevated level of safety awareness and conduct lab operations in a safe manner.
Maintain a clean kilo lab and ensure equipment is cleaned after use. Ensure support and work areas meet all requirements for housekeeping.
Qualifications:
Required
Bachelor’s degree in chemistry or a minimum of 3-5 years' experience as a chemical operator
Must be open to rotating 1st, 2nd, and 3rd shifts
Elevated level of safety awareness and attention to detail
Must have the ability to read and interpret complex operating instructions
Excellent organizational and record keeping skills
While performing the duties of this job it is required to stand, walk, and use hands to operate objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands or arms; climb, balance, stoop, kneel, or crouch when necessary for job activity.
Must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
Preferred
Prior basic laboratory skills and a working theoretical knowledge of organic chemistry
Experience working in a Kilo-Lab environment or GMP experience
