Pharmacy Technician
Summary:
Applicant must possess a High school diploma or equivalent. Must be currently licensed as a Pharmacy Technician with the California Board of Pharmacy. One year experience with knowledge of all aspects of California Pharmacy Technician Statutes required. Must have current CPR certification that complies with the guidelines set by the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross. Certification may be obtained prior to orientation. This position requires frequent travel between RSBCIHI clinic locations. Applicant must have reliable transportation and the flexibility to adapt to organizational scheduling and travel needs. As a member of the health care team the technician participates in the daily operation of the pharmacy department. Under the supervision of a registered pharmacist, the technician performs a multitude of duties, including but not limited to, record keeping, inventory control, prescription filling and quality management duties. Must be able to work with the Indian Community, and be sensitive to the Indian Culture and its needs.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
Duties of this position shall include but are not limited to the following:
- Accurately transcribes and inputs prescription information from medical charts, screens, identifies and interprets new prescriptions, and generates accurate prescription labels. Correctly receives and follows up on all telephone requests for refills from patients. Completes forms required for refill authorization prior to submitting to physician.
- Has thorough knowledge of all aspects of the pharmacy operations, state, federal laws, company policy and procedures and formulary items. Be able to help providers in filling out a non-formulary request for medications and clarify patients’ questions regarding formulary items. Stock shelves and assist pharmacist in maintaining and ordering supplies. Prepare prescriptions for final check by the pharmacist, must participate in quality control activities. These shall include, but are not limited to, monitoring refrigerator temperature, monitoring for outdated medications on the shelf, performing inspection of all medication/crash carts as indicated, removing recalled and expired medications from the shelves to return to McKesson or as suggested by the manufacturer.
- Applicant shows ability to assist pharmacist in solving problems of an unusual or difficult nature. Provide a patient centered care to all our patients. Plans and organizes workflow to assure prescriptions are filled in the most efficient manner and are given to patients as soon as possible. Uses time effectively to complete unfinished work and anticipated workload. Submits required data for statistical and financial reports in a timely manner.
- Communication skills are essential to this position. Interpersonal contacts with patients and professionals are a daily occurrence. Technicians must demonstrate ability to translate medical terms and concepts into layman language. Encourages cooperation with other providers and ancillary clinic staff. Interacts with peers and other professionals in a professional manner.

Qualifications
Education:
High school graduate or equivalent.
Experience:
Completion of a pharmacy technician training course at a recognized institute, organization or college.
Certification:
Must have current CPR certification that complies with the guidelines set by the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross. Certification may be obtained prior to orientation.
License:
Currently licensed as a Pharmacy Technician with the California Board of Pharmacy
Knowledge of:
All aspects of California pharmacy technician statutes.
Skill:
Recommend typing speed of 30 words per minute.
Ability to:
Must be able to work with the Indian Community, and be sensitive to the Indian culture and its needs.
Physical Demands:
Sitting, standing, bending, stooping, and the ability to carry items weighing up to 40 pounds. Must be physically able to operate the equipment used for the job. Driving will be required between clinics as needed.
