Staff Attorney
The Division of Research for the Missouri Senate is seeking an attorney in a nonpartisan, fast-paced, multi-faceted legislative environment. This is a highly professional position working with members of the Missouri Senate at the State Capitol Building in Jefferson City.
Law degree required. Recent graduates with strong academic credentials are encouraged to apply. The position may qualify individuals for the provisions of the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program, and qualifies for state benefits.
The successful applicant will:
Draft legislation for the Missouri Senate, including bills, substitute bills and amendments;
Staff committees of the Senate, interim committees, and Senate/House Joint committees with research and analysis of legislation and topics before the committees, and draft reports for committees as necessary;
Staff the legislative sessions of the Missouri Senate by monitoring debate and providing requested changes/amendments to bills being debated on the floor of the Senate;
Prepare summaries on legislation debated in the Senate;
Review bills on matters of technical form;
Assist Senate members with topical research on matters of public policy, prepare legal opinions, analyze legislative proposals, and develop policy alternatives;
Assist members with constituent matters by obtaining information which require technical information;
Monitor developments in public policy and develops skills relevant to the issue areas assigned to the staff attorney; and
Perform other related work as assigned.
