The pay range for this position is $17.81 - $23.39 per hour

This position offers a Trainee Status* at the following pay rate: $17.19 per hour

The State of New Hampshire, Department of Safety, Division of Motor Vehicles, Bureau of Driver Licensing has a full-time vacancy for Licensing Examiner I, SOC Title 13-1040 COMPLIANCE OFFICERS-1, which has a 40 hour work week and is considered non-exempt.

 

NOTE:  it is required to apply on www.nh.gov as Handshake applications do not process in our system.

SUMMARY: Administers a variety of tests and driving skills examinations to applicants to ensure that only qualified individuals are issued operator driver licenses and motorcycle driver licenses. Reviews applicant information for consistency with applicable motor vehicle laws and administrative rules, to ensure that applicants are eligible to apply for and receive a New Hampshire driver license, non-driver identification card or other official document.

Each additional year of approved formal education may be substituted for one year of required work experience and/or each additional year of approved work experience may be substituted for one year of required formal education.

 

  

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Experience:

Equivalent combination of 2 years of education and experience after completion of high school. Education and experience must be in instruction, training, customer service, driving work or a related field.
 

License/Certification: Valid driver's license.

 

Other Requirements:

1. Must be at least 21 years of age at time of application.

2. Driving record must be free of motor vehicle violations that are determined by the Director of Motor Vehicles to be disqualifying.

3. Selected candidate will undergo a fingerprint-based criminal background check and motor vehicle record check in order to ensure suitability for exposure to confidential information.

4. Must be willing to attend additional training sessions to expand and maintain knowledge of Driver's License regulations.

5. Must be able to travel throughout the state and work at various satellite offices and testing locations, as well as work outdoors in adverse weather conditions.

6. Must be able and willing to wear seatbelt during all driving skills examinations.

7. May be required to work a flexible schedule including, but not limited to, early morning, evening, and/or weekend hours.

 

Trainee Option:

Candidates with an equivalent combination of 1+ years of relevant education and experience after completion of high school may be considered and hired in ‘trainee status’ for this position.


 

AFTER-HIRE REQUIREMENTS

1. Selected candidate(s) will be required to attend and successfully complete an intensive multi-week training program of classroom and on-the-job training, with weekly evaluations to ensure compatibility, suitability and ability to learn the complex motor vehicle systems, various road examinations, computer systems, processes, procedures, forms and transactions, while providing first-rate customer service in an expedient, timely, accurate and polite manner in a high volume customer service area or workstation. Continued employment is contingent upon successfully completing all aspects of the training program within the first 6 months of employment.

2. Must attend the Safe Driving Program within 60 days and remain current on training throughout employment.

3. Must successfully complete the American Association of Motor Vehicle Administrators (AAMVA) Driver Licensing Examiner Certification Program within 12 months of hire, or as scheduled.


 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

Provides first-rate customer service, by administering driving skills examinations, through applicant on and off road performance tests in automobiles, and on motorcycles, to ensure adequate driving ability prior to issuing a driver license.

 

Qualifies or disqualifies applicants for a driver license based on results of driving skills examinations. Records pertinent information about the examinations and prepares and submits various reports of driver licensing activities in the appropriate format.

 

Ensures that applicants have completed and passed the required knowledge examination and have a basic understanding of New Hampshire motor vehicle laws, prior to administering the driving skills examination.

 

Ensures that applicants have completed and passed the vision screening examination, confirming that the applicant’s vision meets motor vehicle law requirements, prior to completing the driving skills examination.

 

Assists counter personnel with applicant questions and concerns. Assists with reviewing applicant documentation for accuracy, validity and authenticity. 

 

Answers questions from the general public at the customer counter and on the telephone regarding New Hampshire motor vehicle laws, driver licensing, forms and procedures in accordance with the Privacy Act. Answers applicant questions regarding the driving skills examinations.

 

Provides support to clerks, as needed, by operating and utilizing DMV computer hardware and software, entering applicant data, capturing applicant signatures and images, and assisting at the customer greeting station.

 

Maintains assigned office for efficient service of the public. Assists with checking equipment for proper operation including the vision screening hardware. Assists with maintaining proper inventory and security of applications, manuals, document materials and supplies. Notifies management of any facility issues.

 

The work of an employee in trainee status in this position shall be overseen by a fully qualified individual. An employee in trainee status shall meet the minimum qualifications within the period of time specified on the SJD, not to exceed one year of being hired into this position.
