Failure Analysis Specialist (Temporary position)

Job Summary
This is a temporary position for a duration of 8-12 weeks. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in engineering or technically related field. This role is responsible for ensuring that parts that fail production testing are being properly troubleshooted, accurately diagnosed, and diligently reported. This person must become intimately familiar with the design intent, manufacturing process, and its failure modes and effects of the specific product. To achieve this, this person should spend at least 80% of the time at the production testing and rework stations working closely with the production team members to evaluate defects, perform root cause analysis, and escalate systemic issues as needed. Supports rapid resolution of quality issues and contributes to continuous improvement by capturing detailed failure data and performing hands-on troubleshooting of our products.

Responsibilities

  • Proactively reviews the testing process to evaluate: 1) adherence to established procedures; 2) training effectivity; and 3) equipment set up, maintenance, effectiveness.
  • Monitors and responds to line-side rejections or failed units immediately upon notification.
  • Works together with operators and production leads to understand issues and collect relevant data.
  • Evaluates defects and performs root cause analysis.
  • Documents failures, probable causes, and recommendations using standardized forms or digital systems.
  • Identifies and escalates systemic issues, leads their containment and corrective actions.
  • Provides a daily and weekly status report to management.
  • Maintains a clean and organized work area and complies with safety protocols at all times.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Associates degree or certification in a technical field (manufacturing, mechanical, or quality disciplines) is required; or equivalent work experience may be substituted for degree/certification.
  • 2+ years of experience in manufacturing with mechanical assembly or troubleshooting preferred.
  • Familiarity with mechanical systems involving pressure, flow control, and sealing interfaces is a plus.
  • Comfortable using hand, pneumatic, and powered tools.
  • Able to read and follow work instructions, schematics, and defect descriptions.
  • Able to operate independently in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent attention to detail and strong communication skills.
  • Capable of documenting issues accurately and clearly for further analysis.
  • Strong hands-on mechanical aptitude with knowledge of manufacturing processes, assembly techniques and tools.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to collect/research/synthesize data, apply advanced math/statistics, create charts/graphs, troubleshoot issues, draw conclusions and make recommendations.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to develop reports, present to groups and interface effectively with vendors, customers and employees at all levels of the organization.
  • Proficient in MS Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
