Intern, Business Development

MiddleGround Capital (“MiddleGround”) is a private equity firm headquartered in Lexington, KY, that invests in B2B companies in the industrial and specialty distribution sectors in the middle-market. We are differentiated as true operators who have experience working in, and managing businesses that range from the lower middle-market to Fortune-500 companies.

The Position

MiddleGround is targeting part-time interns to work on collaborative team-specific projects, as well as broader exposure within the firm. As a Business Development (BD) Intern, you will support our sourcing strategy and relationship management efforts and complete final project outlined at the beginning of your internship, with a presentation at the end of the term.

You’ll get exposure to private equity deal flow, CRM database management (e.g., DealCloud), and market research, all while collaborating with internal teams and industry-facing contacts.

This is a paid position based onsite in Lexington, KY and is perfect for a student looking for an internship in Private Equity and to gain experience in a fast-paced, professional BD environment. You will learn from industry experts and gain insight into how deals are sourced and evaluated.

Key Traits and Responsibilities

  • Collaborates and communicates with internal stakeholders, especially within the BD and Investment teams
  • Maintains a "can do," excited attitude, and a willingness to learn and take initiative
  • Offers insights based on coursework in business, finance, economics, or marketing
  • Supports team efforts including relationship tracking, event prep, deal screening, and CRM data entry
  • Assists with organizing BD materials and updating DealCloud
  • Takes feedback seriously and strives to constantly be improving

Requirements

  • Student currently enrolled in a relevant Bachelor's or advanced degree program (Business, Finance, Marketing, or related fields preferred)
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite; experience with CRM platforms or DealCloud is a plus
  • Naturally curious, outgoing, and comfortable engaging in a professional environment
  • Able to work independently and cross-collaboratively with other teams
