Government Affairs Internship
Internship Description
Fertility Within Reach is a nonprofit organization that increases access to health benefits for fertility treatment and preservation. We do this by educating patients, policymakers, and service providers with proprietary and evidence-based data through personalized consultations, workshops, and legislative testimonies.
We now wish to share our knowledge and approach to students interested in government affairs and policy making. Through this internship, students will gain successful strategic advocacy approaches, participate in research for advocacy, and write communication material. All sessions will be recorded for future reference.
Our collective ability to directly impact legislators and thus legislation, employers, insurers, clinics, and clinicians can make all the difference in terms of fertility health benefits and policy change.
The intern’s responsibilities will include:
- Evaluate the political priorities of specific states
- Research information to support lobbying efforts
- Develop communication/language for outreach material
- Coalition organizing with individuals and organizations with similar missions, as well as finding coalitions to join
- Learn oppositional arguments and write responses to each
- Fine-tune legislative writing skills
Regular responsibilities of interns in this position will include tracking bills related to fertility at the state or federal level, emailing legislators, creating fact sheets, developing website content, attending and representing FWR at advocacy events, and reaching out to various government agencies and officials.
Non-profit work is exciting and dynamic. The responsibilities of this internship may shift with the direction of our legislative initiatives as we are constantly developing new ideas to aid our cause, and new responsibilities and projects become available regularly.
This is an unpaid internship. We can assist with completing any documentation for university-sponsored stipends.
