Primary Function:
The Special Education Teacher provides direct instruction and educational support services—including case management—for students with special needs. This role plays a critical part in supporting students' academic, functional, and social development. Candidates should be experienced in implementing individualized strategies and responsive to the needs of a diverse student population.
Qualifications:
License: Valid Illinois Professional Educator License with LBSI Endorsement
Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
Experience: Preferred – Two (2) years of experience working with a diverse student population
Essential Performance Responsibilities:
Plan and deliver instruction using District-approved curriculum tailored to individual student needs
Modify and adapt lessons to align with Individualized Education Program (IEP) goals
Provide direct instruction using various strategies including individualized instruction, co-teaching, team teaching, and hands-on learning
Create a positive and developmentally appropriate classroom environment that fosters learning and inclusion
Collaborate regularly with colleagues and specialists to meet each student’s educational and behavioral needs
Actively participate in problem-solving and intervention teams to support early identification and resolution of student challenges
Manage all aspects of students' IEPs, including compliance, progress monitoring, and communication with stakeholders
Maintain current knowledge of best practices, special education law (IDEA), due process, and instructional interventions
