As the Director, Environmental Services you will be responsible for overseeing the cleanliness and sanitation standards across multiple facilities, ensuring a safe, welcoming environment for Business and Basketball Operations employees and guests.
This role leads the development and implementation of standard processes in cleaning operations, collaborating with key partners to maintain consistent standards across all venues. The Director leads and mentors the EVS leadership and employees, to deliver outstanding results while optimizing resources and adhering to health and safety regulations.
What you’ll be doing
- Oversees the management and execution of the institutional Environmental Services programs across all shifts and multiple venues, including the Pistons Performance Center, Detroit Pistons spaces at Little Caesars arena and Wayne State Field house
- Regularly monitors national resources, (CDC, WHO, OSHA, GBAC, Well Health & Safety) to ensure compliance with recommended guidelines and standards.
- Performs daily inspections and facility audits of the physical condition of Pistons Sports and Entertainment spaces, providing guidance to the EVS team and recommending necessary repairs to the maintenance team.
- Collaborates with team medical staff to implement effective infection mitigation protocols and ensures thorough cleaning and sanitization of all basketball-related equipment and facilities, including courts, training rooms, therapeutic recover facilities (steam, sauna’s, hot/cold tub rooms) locker rooms, and weight rooms.
- Oversees and manages third party environmental services vendors, developing and implementing policies, processes, and objectives to ensure the highest quality standards.
- Lead the development and execution of the company-wide recycling program, ensuring compliance with environmental regulations, optimizing waste reduction, and driving sustainability initiatives that align with NBA and company goals.
- Oversee the design and implementation of comprehensive staff training and certification programs focused on environmental compliance, safety protocols, and sustainability standard processes, ensuring continuous development and alignment with organizational goals.
- Oversee the management of the ATP Cleaning Verification system, ensuring accurate reporting and driving continuous staff development and performance improvement.
- Oversee the EVS annual budget, ensuring effective allocation of resources across labor, supply inventories and equipment maintenance to drive operational excellence and efficiency.
- Collaborates with LCA and WSU Arena operation teams to ensure consistent implementation and execution of standard processes for cleaning and maintaining basketball equipment and areas including courts, goals, training rooms, locker-rooms, therapeutic recover facilities, weight rooms
- Lead EVS Manager in supporting LCA and WSU cleaning standards, promoting effective methods to improve the guest experience.
What we’re looking for
- A Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, Facilities Management, Business Administration, or a related field. Advanced degree preferred.
- Minimum of 7-10 years’ experience in environmental services, facilities management or operations
- 3-5 years of leadership experience managing and developing teams while driving performance and professional growth
- Expertise in environmental sustainability practices, waste management and custodial operations
- Experience working in high profile or large-scale venues, such as a sports arenas, stadiums, or entertainment facilities is preferred
- Experience in managing budgets while optimizing operational cost and maintaining high standards
- Must be willing to work weekends and irregular hours
- Must have basic knowledge of Microsoft Office programs
- Excellent communication skills (verbal and written)
