This position serves as a Day Shift Operator, in performing journey-level enterprise system and network operations control work. 

In this position, you will monitor, operate, and coordinate the enterprise computer systems using various systems and software tools to ensure systems, operating platforms, subsystems, applications, networks, and peripheral hardware are operating properly. 

In addition, you will monitor various systems and contact on-call staff to resolve any unresolved issues, such as server failures by researching, resolving, and circumventing interruptions to processing components and network connectivity.

Essential Functions

  • Under general supervision, serves a Day Shift Operator for the Department of Innovation & Technology (DoIT), performing advanced enterprise system and network operations control work by coordinating, monitoring, and operating the enterprise computer systems.
  • Monitors various systems and contacts on-call staff to correct any unresolved issues, such as server failures, by researching, resolving, or circumventing interruptions to processing components and network connectivity through following standard operational processes, procedures, and diagnosis.
  • Places service calls for hardware problems and records all aspects of the call on the daily shift report, by answering general questions and forwarding more agency specific issues to state agency helpdesks.
  • Keeps abreast of the enterprise computer environment and all components (operating systems, subsystems, applications, tasks, networks, and hardware) through participation in training, development, testing, and reviewing the Data Processing Guide.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of duties enumerated above.

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of high school.
  • Requires three (3) years of previous related experience such as is typically gained at the Data Processing Technician level.

OR

  • Requires two (2) years of college including coursework in the data processing field.
  • Requires two (2) years of related experience.

Preferred Qualifications (In Order of Significance)

  • Two (2) years of professional experience performing enterprise system and network operations control functions, utilizing a variety of system tools and software platforms.
  • Two (2) years of professional experience researching, resolving, and circumventing interruptions to processing components and network connectivity and maintaining reports of the failures.
  • Extensive knowledge of enterprise production control practices, including job scheduling, batch processing, workflow coordination, and compliance with change management policies.
  • Extensive knowledge of compiling operational documentation including system activity logs, incident response records, and shift summary reports.
  • Working knowledge of enterprise-level IT infrastructure, including operating systems, business applications, network components, and peripheral devices.
  • Ability to interpret and follow complex verbal and written technical instructions accurately to perform system operations and troubleshooting tasks.
  • Ability to recognize, diagnose, and respond to system performance issues, alarms, and outages in a timely and effective manner.
  • Ability to identify system or production errors and take appropriate corrective actions in accordance with established procedures and operational protocols.
  • Ability to coordinate with on-call personnel, technical staff, vendors, and agency helpdesks to resolve hardware and software issues.
  • Skill in monitoring consoles and entering keyboard commands rapidly and accurately to ensure timely response to system prompts, alerts, and operational tasks.
