Occupational Health and Safety Intern

General Objective:

To develop, implement, and monitor a basic occupational health and safety system tailored to the factory's reality, with a focus on accident prevention and awareness-building.

 

Specific Objectives:

  1. Identify the main hazards and risks in different workstations.
  2. Create a Basic OHS Manual for the factory.
  3. Define and implement simple and effective safety procedures (e.g., machine handling, fire safety, chemical handling).
  4. Design and deliver internal training and awareness activities.
  5. Produce onboarding safety videos: a general version for all office employees and tailored versions for industrial operators.
  6. Propose a continuous improvement plan with safety performance indicators.
  7. Establish a communication strategy integrating safety and HR messages in common employee areas.

Internal Communication Strategy

To reinforce safety culture and keep employees informed, safety and HR communications should be placed in strategic common areas such as break rooms and lunch areas. This will help ensure all staff easily access important updates, reminders, and workplace policies.

  • Placement of Posters and Notices: Include safety procedures, emergency contacts, PPE reminders, and HR announcements.
  • Regular Updates: Refresh communication materials frequently to maintain engagement and relevance.
  • Interactive Elements: Use QR codes or links to safety videos and digital resources for active learning.

 

Onboarding Video Initiative

To standardize and improve the onboarding experience for new employees regarding workplace safety:

  • General Safety Video: A concise, clear video introducing fundamental health and safety rules for all office employees.
  • Tailored Industrial Videos: Specific safety onboarding videos for operators, addressing risks and procedures unique to each industrial area or machinery.

These videos will support live training, enhance understanding, and ensure consistent communication of safety practices.

Ideal Intern Profile:

  • Student in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Engineering, Industrial Management, or similar fields.
  • Proactive, observant, and good communication skills.
  • Basic knowledge of applicable OHS legislation.
  • Interest or experience in multimedia content creation is a plus.
