Recreation Division Intern

Position Function

 

Work with the Recreation Division to complete tasks, lead programs and events, attend meetings, and assist with Department projects while gaining a well-rounded experience through assigned tasks and issued responsibilities.  

 

Tasks/Duties

 

  • Maintain a working knowledge of programs and events offered by the Recreation Division. Interpret the scope of these opportunities including its benefits to the community.
  • Assist with various programs and events offered by the Recreation Division to include youth, adult and senior programming.
  • Lead, monitor and assist program and event participants, teams, groups and volunteers.
  • Create a new program/event proposal based on division needs and within available budget for future consideration.
  • Perform administrative tasks, including but not limited to, filing, computer data entry, completing forms, collecting facility and participant user fees, answering and/or placing phone calls, and responding and/or sending email communications.
  • Assist administrative staff with telephone calls, park visitor inquiries and public communications for recreation facilities.
  • Work with division supervisors to assist, shadow and/or perform assigned tasks for facilities to include Eastmonte, Merrill and Westmonte parks.
  • Prepare and maintain activity records and reports as assigned.
  • Assist with the development of promotional materials and community information. Assist with the management divisions websites and social media.
  • Attend meetings associated with the division to include staff meetings and staff trainings.
  • Maintain a work schedule to meet the expectations of the community and fits the needs of the division’s programs and events.
  • Assist in developing business partner/sponsor relationships to enhance and improve community outreach.
  • Administer the CivicRec and Tyler Munis computer programs for proper daily operations.
  • Drive to and from various city work locations.
  • Assist with Department of Leisure Services projects and perform additional duties, as assigned.

 

Qualifications

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Declared major/minor within Leisure Services, Recreation, Events, Sports Programming or closely related field with an approved educational institution.
  • Must be able to work various hours to include evenings and weekends.
  • Valid driver license. Must obtain Florida driver license within thirty (30) days of employment.

PREFERABLE QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Experience in recreation or sports programming.
  • Experience in using Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Internet search engines, social media (i.e. Facebook and Twitter), and email communication.

Applicants will be Applicants will be required to complete a Disclosure & Authorization Regarding Background Investigation, a Confidentiality Agreement and a criminal background screening.


 

Driving history for the past three (3) years must reflect no violations of a driving related felony offense, or driving under the influence (DUI) which includes both drugs and alcohol, reckless driving, or hit and run involving an occupied vehicle or attended property, or an accumulation of traffic violations, plus three (3) points for each attendance at driving school (regardless of whether points were assessed against the license) where the penalty points do not exceed twelve (12).
