
Construction Instructor
Description
The Rancho Cielo Construction Academy is a partnership between John Muir Charter Schools (JMCS) and Rancho Cielo Youth Campus designed to provide at-risk youth with an opportunity to gain classroom training, work experience and transferrable skills that help them become employable in the Construction industry. This position is responsible for the CTE instruction of Construction participants, successful operation of all tools and facilities, for working cooperatively with the Rancho Cielo Director of CTE, and working cooperatively with the JMCS Academic Teacher (JMCS) to ensure diplomas are awarded. The Construction Instructor receives support and supervision from the JMCS Regional Director, JMCS Regional Deputy Director, and the Rancho Cielo Director of CTE Programs.
Essential Duties
- Design and implement appropriate and meaningful instructional activities, incorporating the latest instructional and interactive learning technologies.
- Possess the knowledge, skills, and experience to provide effective instruction in concepts and principles as they relate to the field of instruction and ensure that content covers approved competencies.
- Serve as the advisor for student led organizations/clubs.
- Supervise instructor selection and classroom assistance.
- Supervise the establishment of work experience stations as well as the students at these stations.
- Provide curriculum guidance to the department and program advisement to students.
- Meet regularly with the advisory committee.
- Current understanding of assessment processes for improving student success at the course, program, and
- degree level.
- Advancing equitable student learning through dedicated, exemplary instruction in accordance with established course outlines.
- Informing students of course requirements, evaluation procedures and attendance requirements.
- Preparing and grading class assignments and examinations and informing students of their academic progress.
- Maintaining attendance, scholastic, and other records and submitting them according to published policies and deadlines.
- Attending department, division, and campus meetings on a regular basis.
- Engaging in department program improvement initiatives.
- Driving duties; may be required to drive students to educational field trips or other colleges as needed.
- Ensure that all students complete the Growers & Shippers 90-hour industry recognized certification. Take daily attendance for JMCS classes.
- Be a great team member with other JMCS and Rancho Cielo employees.
- Be an ambassador in the community for JMCS and Rancho Cielo’s missions and visions.
Training and Experience
- Bachelor's degree from four-year College or university in any field and four years of experience or an Associate’s degree and six years of experience
- At least 6 years of experience working in the Construction industry.
- Bilingual – Spanish/English beneficial
- Current California CTE Credential and Clad Credential or current eligibility for an intern credential
Qualifications and Requirements
- Education and/or experience in teaching in Construction.
- Demonstrate the ability to supervise and manage the agriculture unit.
- Current knowledge of Construction and related construction CTE courses.
- Ability and willingness to work with other faculty, staff, and administrative personnel.
- Demonstrated knowledge of the Hispanic-Serving designation for institutional, department, and instructional practices.
- Ability to multi-task, organize and prioritize work assignments.
Ability to understand the organization and operations of JMCS and Rancho Cielo.
- Ability to learn, interpret, and apply policies and procedures.
- Ability to perform keyboard tasks at a moderately high rate of speed with accuracy.

Travel
This position may require occasional travel for JMCS or Rancho Cielo training and events including at least one 2-night professional development conference annually.
Salary and Benefits
Salary is based on the JMCS At-Will Salary Step Schedule, Schedule D: Certificated CTE. $62,740 to $93,924 depending on education and years of industry experience. Medical, dental, and vision benefits are included in the compensation package.
