UI/UX Engineer

Position Summary:

This position is a hybrid role that combines user-centered design expertise with front-end development skills to create intuitive, data-driven applications within the Palantir Foundry environment. This position involves conducting user research, designing user flows and interfaces, implementing interactive solutions, and optimizing data pipelines to support application functionality. The ideal candidate will collaborate closely with stakeholders and cross-functional teams to deliver high-performing, accessible, and user-friendly applications that address complex business needs. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Conduct comprehensive user research (interviews, usability testing, surveys) to gather insights and validate design solutions for Foundry-based applications.
  • Translate user research findings and business requirements into effective user flows, wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity designs for Palantir Foundry applications (e.g., Workshop, Slate).
  • Design and implement user interfaces directly within Palantir Foundry using tools like Workshop and Slate, leveraging custom HTML, CSS, and JavaScript/TypeScript where necessary.
  • Develop and refine data ontology models within Foundry to ensure data structures effectively support user experience and application functionality.
  • Build and optimize data pipelines and transformations (using Python/PySpark, SQL) to prepare and integrate data for consumption within user-facing applications.
  • Champion user-centered design best practices throughout the development lifecycle within the Foundry environment.
  • Ensure the usability, accessibility, and performance of all developed Foundry applications.
  • Iterate on designs and implementations based on user feedback, performance metrics, and evolving business requirements.
  • Maintain clear documentation of design processes, user flows, and technical implementations.
  • Collaborate closely with stakeholders, team members, and engineers to understand complex business problems and user needs within various domains.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Expertise in front-end development technologies: HTML, CSS, and JavaScript/TypeScript.
  • Strong programming skills in Python, with experience in data manipulation and scripting (e.g., PySpark).
  • Proficiency in SQL for data querying and manipulation.
  • Demonstrated experience with user research methodologies (qualitative and quantitative) and usability testing.
  • Experience using wireframing and prototyping tools (e.g., Figma, Sketch).
  • Strong understanding of Information Architecture, Interaction Design, and Visual Design principles.
  • Hands-on experience with Palantir Foundry is a plus, including familiarity with Ontology Manager, Workshop, and Slate.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and presentation skills, with the ability to articulate complex ideas to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Ability to work effectively in an agile, fast-paced, and collaborative team environment.
  • Familiarity with Agile project management tools (e.g., Jira or similar) to manage product backlog and development progress.

 

Education, Certifications, and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in software development, computer science, or related field or equivalent work experience.
  • 2 - 5 years of relevant experience in UI/UX design and/or front-end development roles, with a focus on data-intensive, interactive applications.

 

Physical Requirements: 

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Ability to lift up to 20 pounds. 

 

Travel Expectations:

  • Expected travel: up to 15%
