Job Status:       Full-Time

Salary Range:  $22.00 - $24.00 per hour         

Reports To:      Director - Adult Education and Training

Union Gospel Mission Twin Cities’ Adult Education and Training department seeks to instill the hope and skills necessary for individuals to achieve their full potential. We offer a computer-based, self-paced experience in which program participants meet individualized educational and career development goals that lead to employment. Our desire is to see each participant grow in 4 key areas: spiritual, academic, career development, and workplace behavior development.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Adult Education and Training Instructor is responsible for implementing integrated learning programs for adult program participants utilizing digital curricula, career development materials, and other resources. Also responsible for providing coaching in workplace behaviors such as time management, physical presentation, and appropriate communication.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Supports program participants in developing essential skills through adult education and training, with the goal of preparing them for successful employment.
  • Oversees student assessments and develops individualized education plans tailored to each participant’s skills, needs, and learning goals
  • Assesses and evaluates student abilities and performance. Monitors student progress.
  • Teaches and facilitates career development concepts and activities, such as career exploration and resume creation.
  • Provides coaching in successful workplace behaviors such as time management, physical presentation, and appropriate communication.
  • Utilizes case-management software to track and report on student progress and program objectives. Maintains other program records and reports.
  • Nurtures a welcoming and safe environment for program participants to learn and grow. De-escalates and resolves issues and conflicts.
  • Participates in prayer and discussion about Biblical concepts with program participants.
  • Represents the Christian values of UGMTC with residents, staff, volunteers, and business/community training partners.
  • Utilizes CaseWorthy software to track and report student progress and program objectives.
  • Provides welcoming environment, direction and training to volunteers.  Tracks volunteer hours.
  • Maintains cooperative relationships with other departments within UGMTC.
  • Follows safety and occupational health policies and procedures and reports injuries immediately.
  • Transports students from the Men’s Campus to LifeNet, as well as field trips, GED testing sites, college campuses, and occasionally to job interviews.
  • At any time with or without notice, performs other duties and activities as assigned.

MINIMUM  REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent work experience.
  • A minimum of 2 years’ experience teaching or facilitating adult learning and/or experience in workforce development.
  • Experience working with individuals struggling with mental health issues, homelessness, poverty, or addiction.
  • Valid driver’s license, clean driving record.
  • Ability to pass a background check and MVR check.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Experience and/or training in adult education concepts and procedures.
  • Experience with career development concepts and activities, such as resume creation.
  • Understanding of Biblical concepts and principles and the ability to facilitate discussions and answer questions about these concepts and principles preferred.
  • Conflict prevention, de-escalation, and resolution skills.
  • Exceptional judgment, self-control, and professional boundaries.
  • Ability to maintain client confidentiality in accordance with all policies and state and federal laws.
  • Interpersonal and communication skills necessary to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a culturally diverse community.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and coordinate.
  • Proficiency in the operation of Microsoft Office software, case-management software, and other business-related software applications.
  • Self-motivated and strives for the continuous improvement of program outcomes.
  • Knowledge of issues impacting people experiencing mental health issues, homelessness, poverty, or addiction.
  • Ability to read, understand, and follow safety and other specific instructions and procedures.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL EFFORT:

  • Work is performed both in a typical office setting and shelter environment.
  • Must be able to lift 10-15 lbs.
  • Work requires pushing, pulling, reaching, crouching, stooping, walking, twisting, carrying, driving, and other physical activities.
  • Limited exposure to physical risk.
