American Public Television Programming Internship

Internship Opportunity: Public Television Programming

 

The Exchange programming department at American Public Television (APT) has an opportunity for a part-time internship for college students. APT is the leading distributor of high-quality programming to the nation’s public television stations. The Exchange department works closely with public television stations and producers to distribute an extensive library of award-winning cooking, travel and lifestyle series, documentaries, music performance, children’s programming, and news and public affairs series. Through the internship, students gain exposure to the content acquisition process and the business of content distribution, as well as the larger public media system.

 

This is a part-time, paid internship ($15/hour). Interns may also receive college credit if their academic institution allows. Students must be able to work 10-15 hours per week for the duration of the semester, and this includes both remote and in-office work (depending on the schedule of the student).

 

The Exchange internship may involve the following: 

 

  • Screen potential public television programs, write detailed screening reports, provide feedback, and discuss notes with an intern supervisor
  • Screen potential and existing public television series for program practices compliance and write reports for discussion with an intern supervisor
  • Varied research projects specific to the needs of our content team
  • Minimal administrative duties as needed

 

Qualifications:   

 

  • Strong critical analysis, writing/editing and communication skills
  • Experience and course work in television/film production, media, journalism and communications helpful but not required
  • Additional preferred skills include experience with internet research and social media account management
