Business English Instructor

Position: Business English Instructor 
Status: Non-exempt, Part-Time 
Reports to: Economic Empowerment Program Manager 
Salary: $30.00 per hour 

The Korean-American Family Service Center, Inc. (KAFSC) is a leading non-profit organization dedicated to assisting survivors of gender-based violence in the New York tri-state area. Our services include counseling, education, advocacy, and support, helping individuals to empower themselves and build safe, healthy relationships based on mutual respect and dignity. Annually, over 3,000 individuals benefit from our culturally sensitive, linguistically appropriate, and free. 

Position Summary: 

KAFSC is seeking a committed and skilled Business English Instructor to teach intermediate and advanced-level English classes as part of our Economic Empowerment Program. This role supports program participants by equipping them with practical English communication skills for the workplace by preparing, and delivering structured and interactive lessons to ensure students succeed in their careers. The instructor will be responsible for designing and delivering interactive lessons with a focus on real-world workplace. 

Your key tasks will consist of, but not be limited to: 

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Work with the Economic Empowerment team to design and deliver dynamic, student-centered English lessons tailored to intermediate and/or advanced English language learners. 
  • Teach business communication skills including writing emails, resumes, and memos; and engaging in professional dialogue. 
  • Modify lesson plans and materials to accommodate diverse learning styles and language levels. 
  • Track and assess participant progress, providing constructive feedback and individualized support; this includes conducting pre/post assessments; track progress toward educational functioning levels. 
  • Collaborate with the Economic Empowerment team to evaluate and improve instructional strategies and program outcomes. 
  • Maintain accurate records of attendance, assessments, and student achievements. 
  • Participate in planning and facilitating program-related events and activities to support learner engagement and success. 
  • Support extracurricular and enrichment opportunities when relevant. 

Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related or equivalent field preferred. 
  • Previous experience teaching ESL or working with English language learners preferred. 
  • Experience in business or professional environments is preferred. 
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including some evenings as needed. 
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills. 
  • Personal integrity and ability to handle confidential and sensitive information.
  • Understanding of New York City’s diversity and experience working with people of diverse backgrounds. 
  • Must be able to teach in-person.
