Editorial Intern

National Journal is hiring an editorial intern.

National Journal has an immediate opening for a part-time fall intern to join our editorial team. This individual will report to the National Journal editor-in-chief and work on National Journal Daily, Hotline’s Wake-Up Call, and Hotline Latest Edition, as well as some newer editorial products moving toward launch. The responsibilities for this position could include early mornings and late nights.

National Journal Daily is an insider's source for everything happening on the Hill and the White House. Published each evening, The Daily provides both quick takes on the news of the day as well as deep-dive stories that provide context and  analysis for a plugged-in audience.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Searching and curating the morning’s political news via Google, Lexis/Nexis, social media, and dozens of newspapers and other sources
  • Reporting on Capitol Hill as necessary
  • Collaborating with staff correspondents and editors on larger feature stories
  • Assisting on larger data projects, including preparing our “Race Tracker” product for the 2026 campaign season

Qualifications of the Ideal Candidate:

  • A passion for journalism and a commitment to independent, nonpartisan reporting and writing
  • Working knowledge of American politics and a hunger to learn more
  • Thorough attention to detail and ability to file on tight deadlines
  • The ability to multitask with little supervision
  • A familiarity with AI newsgathering tools
  • A strong work ethic and motivation to succeed
  • Quick and accurate writing skills
  • Creative thinking and resourcefulness in problem-solving
  • Prodigious work ethic and spirit of generosity

Employment Type: Internship

Term: Sept.-Dec. 2025

Compensation: The salary for this role is $20/hour

Location: This job is based in Washington, DC. National Journal operates on a hybrid schedule, with employees required to be in the office every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.
