The Department of Urologic Surgery at the University of California Davis, School of Medicine is recruiting for a Junior Specialist to join the Lombard Lab focusing on identifying and targeting the mechanisms of prostate tumor progression.

 

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DESIGNATED AREAS OF EXPERTISE 

The Junior Specialist has the general duties of working closely with the Principal Investigator (PI) in the planning and execution of a research project. The junior specialist may assist in data collection, entry and quality control, study design and implementation, literature reviews and data analysis for preparation of manuscripts or conference presentations, and writing conference abstracts and manuscripts (e.g., methods and results sections, table, and figure generation) for a particular project.

 

The incumbent will work under the supervision of Dr. Alan Lombard and must show the ability to work cooperatively and collegially in a diverse environment. 

 

A reasonable annual estimate for this position is $55,000 at Step 1 to $58,600 at Step 2. 

The successful candidate must be able to demonstrate that they are legally authorized to work in the United States. The University will not offer sponsorship of a visa for this position.

QUALIFICATIONS (Required at time of application.) 

  • Bachelor's Degree (or equivalent degree) with a major in biology or a related field 
  • At least twelve months of relevant experience working in a research lab
  • Experience working in a research laboratory or using specific research methods techniques 
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, take initiative, make critical decisions
  • Demonstrated strong organizational and time management skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills 
  • Demonstrated problem solving skills, utilizing available resources and good judgment.

 

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS (Required at time of start date)

  • Experience working in a research laboratory. Specific desired experience includes but is not limited to cell culture, molecular biology techniques (e.g. cloning), biochemical assays (e.g. western blotting), flow cytometry, NGS and data analysis, microscopy.
  • Demonstrated knowledge in general lab practices and procedures, as well as familiarity with safety protocols, regulations and guidelines.
  • Managerial experience including but not limited to maintaining inventory and records, managing safety documentation, assistance with reports, and equipment/resource management.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills to effectively and professionally communicate to internal and external constituents.
  • Demonstrated ability to understand scientific papers and theories.
  • Demonstrated strong writing and editing skills, including but not limited to writing summaries, reports, and correspondence using accurate and professional grammar, spelling and punctuation.
  • Accomplished organizational and administrative skills to assume general assignments and independently follow through to successful completion.
  • Demonstrated ability to anticipate problems/ roadblocks and associated consequences, and take appropriate initiative on behalf of lab team and PI.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATION

  • Demonstrated familiarity with UC Davis laboratory research, systems and processes.
