The Institute for Decision Making (IDM) is the community and economic development outreach arm of the University of Northern Iowa, part of Business and Community Services. We work with communities and organizations across Iowa and beyond. Our services include strategic planning, technical assistance, applied research, and economic development-related training for board members and practitioners. Our clients include communities, economic development organizations, chambers of commerce, state agencies, convention and visitor bureaus, and other mission-driven groups working to build stronger, more resilient places. 

We are hiring a Project Assistant. The Project Assistant will support the IDM team in key client projects and marketing. A portion of the Project Assistant’s time will be spent helping with the Heartland Economic Development Course. This is a basic course in the practice of economic development for people new to the profession and is held annually in the Kansas City, MO metro area. Activities may include:

  • Registration Management
  • Course materials
  • Marketing
  • Student correspondence
  • Website updates
  • Course logistics and onsite assistance (if available)

In addition to the Heartland course, the Project Assistant will support IDM’s marketing efforts, including website improvements and updates, strengthening our social media presence, and designing promotional materials. There will also be opportunities to work with IDM on strategic planning projects for clients where tasks may include community research, assistance with written deliverable design or production, and if available to participate, offsite planning session facilitation support.
