Classification: Entry Level Police Officer

The Monroe Police Department is currently hiring for Entry Level Police Officer.  Candidates must take the FrontLine National exam through NTN by August 9, 2025.

Candidates must also complete a department application, here. Failure to complete the department application and/or testing will exclude candidates from the next phase of the hiring process.

All applications with the city must be received by August 9, 2025.

 

Salary Information: Starting pay is $64,770 - $94,295, based on certification, with top out after 4 years to the current contract.

Benefit Information: Excellent Health, Dental and Vision insurance plan. Health Savings Account with employer contribution. 4 days on, 2 days off schedule for patrol officers.

Department Overview: The Monroe Police Department is recognized as an advanced accredited law enforcement agency through the Commission on Accredited Law Enforcement Agencies that emphasizes our core values of Honor, Integrity and Professionalism. The department’s staff is currently authorized at 39 sworn officers and 10 civilians. Many opportunities for advanced training and specialization such as evidence technician, crash investigation/reconstruction, tactical unit, and others. The department moved into a new, state of the art, police facility last year.

Area Information: The City of Monroe is situated in both Warren and Butler Counties in southwest Ohio. It is the fastest growing city in Butler County. The city is home to several manufacturing and fulfillment centers, an outlet mall situated near the Interstate 75 interchange on the city’s eastern border.

Population: Estimated currently at 15,448.

Age:
Must be at least 21, no more than 35, at the original time of appointment as a peace officer in Ohio.

Citizenship Required:
Authorized to work in the US

High School Grad / GED:
Yes

Driver's License:
Yes (With Ohio Operators License required within 6 months of hire).

Ability to Read/Speak English:
Yes

College:
Preferred

Academy Certification:
Not required. The department provides academy training to applicants who are not certified through the State of Ohio. May enter into academy at 20 years of age, but must be 21 at the time of state certification at the conclusion of the academy training.     • Physical Fitness Assessment (Only for candidates who will need to attend the Basic Peace Officer Academy.)



Special Disqualifiers/Behaviors:
Felony, Criminal Activity Disqualifiers
Admission or conviction of any felony offense committed as an adult. Any conviction of a M-1 or M-2 misdemeanor, as defined by the federal, state, or local law of the jurisdiction where the offense occurred, as an adult in the past five years or more than one M-1 or M-2 conviction as an adult.
Any conviction of more than one M-1 or M-2 misdemeanor as defined by the federal, state or local law of the jurisdiction where the offense occurred, as a juvenile. Any pattern of theft offenses from an employer or during the course of employment as an adult.
Any violation of a Protection Order.
Admitted or convicted domestic violence.

Driving Disqualifiers
Two or more moving violations within the proceeding twelve months prior to application. Six or more points on driving record within the past twenty-four-month period prior to application. Conviction of an OVI within the past six-year period prior to application. Driving privileges placed under a 12-point suspension within the past six-year period prior to application.

Drug Use Disqualifiers
Applicant may not have illegally sold or have been convicted of illegal sales of any controlled substance or contraband. Applicant may not have history of any use of cocaine, heroin, LSD, crack, methamphetamine, or PCP. Applicants may not have used hallucinogens, prescription drugs (without a prescriptions), steroids, or any other illegal drugs and narcotics within the preceding twenty-four (24) months prior to application. MARIJUANA: Applicant may not have used marijuana within the preceding twelve (12) months

Employment Disqualifiers
Receipt of a Dishonorable Discharge from military service or a General Court Martial. Filing fraudulent claims for insurance, welfare, unemployment compensation, or other public assistance programs. An employment history which includes any of the following: termination, resignation in lieu of discharge, excessive absence/tardiness, inability to get along with others, or any adverse disciplinary actions.

Financial Disqualifiers
Continuing history of financial or credit problems to include: garnishments and bankruptcy. Any finding of contempt by a court for failure to provide for family/dependents as ordered by the courts or for which a legal obligation of care exists.

Additional Disqualifiers
Non-compliance with a court order or legal contract to provide child support, alimony, or other financial responsibility determined by finding of any court of law. A past history of association or involvement with any illegal gambling activities or any other organized crime. Any documented or admitted history of racial, ethnic, or social intolerance (i.e. hating or shunning another person or group due to differences they possess).

Personal Appearance Standards:
The City of Monroe, Monroe Police Department prohibits visible tattoos, body markings, and most body piercings or other body alterations.

Tattoos/body markings, except those on the head, neck, and hands, are permitted for agency employees. However, all tattoos/body markings are prohibited from being visible while working in any authorized uniform or attire. Tattoos (visible or not visible) that are obscene, commonly associated with gangs, extremist, and/or supremacist organizations, or that advocate sexual, racial, ethnic, or religious discrimination are strictly prohibited.

Body piercing or alteration to any area of the body that is visible in any authorized uniform or attire and is a deviation from normal anatomical features and that is not medically required is prohibited (limited earring piercings are excluded from this policy).

Such body alteration includes, but is not limited to, the following:

  • Tongue, nose, eye, or brow splitting or piercing.
  • The complete or transversal implantation of any material other than hair replacement or breast augmentation.
  • Abnormal shaping of the ears, eyes, nose, or teeth.
  • Branding or scarification.

Dental alteration or ornamental teeth, whether natural, capped, or veneered, will not be ornamented with designs, jewels, initials, etc. The use of yellow gold, white gold, or platinum caps (permanent or temporary) merely to add ornamentation to the teeth and not required by dental/medical necessity is prohibited.

Visible body piercings or alterations must also be surgically repaired, returning the body alteration to a normal/acceptable condition as a condition of employment.
