City Assessor

The City of Dickinson is seeking a knowledgeable and experienced City Assessor to lead our Assessment Department in accurately valuing all real and personal property within city limits. This is a key leadership role responsible for ensuring compliance with state and local tax laws while managing a skilled team and maintaining equitable property assessments.

What You’ll Do:
 As the City Assessor, you will:

  • Oversee all assessment operations for real and personal property
  • Conduct property inspections and analyze market data to ensure fair valuations
  • Maintain and update property records, legal descriptions, and exemptions
  • Prepare and manage the annual assessment roll and notices
  • Represent the City at Board of Equalization meetings and appeals
  • Supervise staff and contractors performing appraisal and data collection work
  • Stay current on changes in North Dakota tax laws and appraisal practices

What We’re Looking For:

  • Associate’s degree required; bachelor’s degree preferred in Real Estate, Business, Finance, or a related field
  • North Dakota Class I Assessor Certification (or ability to obtain within one year of hire)
  • At least four years of property appraisal experience, including two years in North Dakota
  • Two years of supervisory experience
  • Familiarity with CAMA systems, GIS mapping, and North Dakota property tax code

Additional Requirements:

  • Valid North Dakota Driver’s License (upon hire)
  • Certified Residential or Certified General Appraiser licensure preferred

Hours & Pay:

  • Schedule: Monday – Friday
  • Salary: $85,861.72 – $132,250.14 annually (DOE)
