Overview
The College of Music Arts Internship Award Program provides a $1,500 scholarship to support current College of Music students in completing a 10-week, 10-hour-per-week internship at an approved arts organization.

This opportunity is open to undergraduate and graduate students currently enrolled in the College of Music. Students graduating before the internship begins are not eligible.

Internship Host Site
MSU Community Music School–Detroit (CMS-D) | Hybrid (Remote + On-site)

Description
This internship offers hands-on experience in nonprofit arts administration. The selected intern will support the CMS-D office with administrative operations, communications, and project-based tasks under the supervision of CMS-D staff.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide customer service support, including phone calls with CMS-D families
• Assist with organizing and cleaning shared digital files and folders
• Draft, edit, and manage documents using Microsoft Office and related tools
• Support program promotion, preparation, and logistics
• Contribute to ongoing office operations and projects as assigned
• Participate in 3–4 in-person visits to CMS-D in Detroit (travel support available)

Minimum Qualifications

• Strong writing and proofreading skills
• Clear and professional communication, especially in customer service contexts
• Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines
• Works well independently and collaboratively
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office; familiarity with Google Drive and social media preferred
• Reliable access to a computer, internet, and phone

Compensation
$1,500 scholarship, applied to the student account upon selection.

• Must be a current College of Music student (undergraduate or graduate)
• Must not graduate before the internship begins
