Data Optimization and Visualization Intern
The Dallas Innovation Alliance (DIA) seeks to optimize its data infrastructure by streamlining the processes of data collection, entry, and reporting, with the ultimate objective of data visualization and dashboarding development.
The objective is to ensure accurate alignment with the organization's budgeting framework, grant reporting requirements, and program impact measurement—particularly through compelling, data-driven storytelling.
This role will work with both raw and pre-processed datasets to analyze current data workflows, including shadowing existing manual and automated collection methods. The project team will identify inefficiencies, redundancies, and areas for technical enhancement across data lifecycle stages. Based on this assessment, students will develop recommendations to improve process efficiency and data integrity.
A key deliverable will be the research, selection, and initial implementation of a data visualization and analytics tool. This role will lead the creation of reusable dashboard templates that support continuity, scalability, and integration with internal and external-facing platforms, establishing a foundation for sustainable data-driven practices within the organization.
Project Objectives:
- Review current data collection methods, impact metrics, and reporting workflows to identify process gaps, redundancies, and areas for improvement
- Research data visualization platforms suitable for web and external integrations & recommend a scalable, user-friendly solution aligned with DIA needs
- Initiate setup, testing, and integration of selected tool and draft dashboards showcasing budget, grants, and impact metrics
- Ideal: begin integration of external data sources such as American Community Survey and University Research
- Create a comprehensive training resource for internal team to ensure long-term sustainability
