Master of Science in Quantitative Economics Program at the University of Pittsburgh

The Master of Science in Quantitative Economics (MQE) program is currently recruiting for new students to join our cohort for fall 2026! Applications for the Fall 2026 cohort are now open! Rolling admissions until June 1st for international applicants and July 31st, 2026 for U.S. applicants. Applicants are encouraged to apply early, and for priority scholarship consideration should apply by the priority deadline of March 15th. International students are encouraged to apply prior to June 1st.

A few highlights about our program:

  • There’s no GRE requirement
  • The program is only 8-months and is a high-priority occupation which means there is high demand in industry for data analysts, quantitative traders, data consultants, etc.
  • 98% of our alumni secured jobs in industry or continued their education.
  • Our program has an Advisory Board and Alumni who give back to the program in a variety of ways through mentoring, job referrals, career chats, and more!
  • Students also complete a semester-long data-centered capstone with a Pittsburgh-area company helping to culminate their experience in the program.
  • All students in this cohort-based program will also have a personal career coach throughout the program. We offer career services and advising, career workshops and trainings, job referrals, and help transition the students to job-ready professionals.
  • This is a high-earning program with graduates making a median salary of $88,000.

Applications for Fall 2026 will be accepted via GradCas, the online application platform through a rolling basis and with space permitting until July 31, 2026. All applicants must apply at https://www.mqe.pitt.edu/admissions/apply-now. Applications can not be accepted via Handshake. 

The Master of Science in Quantitative Economics program is accepting applications through the University of Pittsburgh Dietrich School of Arts and Sciences, Graduate Studies, GradCas.

Please follow these steps to access the GradCas online application:

  1. Select the Fall 2026 Term to Apply.
  2. Create an Account.
  3. Search for Master of Science in Quantitative Economics University of Pittsburgh

An application must include:

  1. Three, 150 word statements to provide the admissions committee with a holistic impression of your unique characteristics, challenges and your intellectual and professional goals. These statements will address these prompts:
    1. Tell us about your academic strengths and weaknesses
    2. Tell us about a challenge you have faced and overcome.
    3. Tell us about your goals and what motivates you to apply to the MQE program.
  2. One letter of recommendation with at least one being an academic reference. (Only one is required, but two are strongly preferred.)
  3. Unofficial Transcripts with demonstrated mastery in Calculus I and a basic understanding of Economics. Applicants should have a cumulative 3.0 GPA or above. Applicants with under a 2.75 GPA will not be considered.
