Staff Professional
Position Summary
The Staff Professional will work with project team members to design, plan, and execute the development of infrastructure projects such as bridges, culverts, and roads.
Duties and Responsibilities
The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:
- Assists with developing reports on topics related to projects
- Conducts structural analysis including hand calculations and computer analysis
- Drafting plans and drawings in AutoCAD or MicroStation under the direction of other team members
- Quantity calculations and cost estimate preparation
- Review of contractor submittals such as shop drawings, requests for information (RFIs), and construction procedures
- Member of inspection team providing field investigation and bridge inspections
- Report preparation and technical writing
- Performance of design tasks in accordance with state and federal design codes
- Ability to learn new software programs for specific project needs
- Prepare tables, sketches, calculations, and 2D/3D illustrations for the interpretation of data, findings, or analyses
- Ability to read construction plans
Qualifications and Expectations
- B.S. degree Civil/Structural Engineering
- 0-4 years of experience
- FE/EIT certification preferred
- Valid driver’s license and automobile insurance
- Familiarity with state and federal design codes and regulations (ex. AASHTO, State Design Standards, AISC, ACI, PCI, NDS, AREMA, OSHA)
- Understanding of basic structural mechanics, steel design, concrete design, timber design, hydraulic design, geotechnical design
- Understanding of basic highway engineering concepts
- Preference for knowledge of structural analysis software (such as CSiBridge and Midasoft) and SketchUp
- Developing verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, with self-motivation and strong attention to detail
- Ability to work productively as a member of a multi-disciplinary team
- Ability to learn new techniques, multi-task, follow instruction, and work independently
- Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, and PowerPoint
