Position1.0 FTE Culinary Arts Teacher

Location: Lewis Mills High School

Reports to: Building Administrator 

Starting Date: With the commencement of the 2025-2026 school year

Lewis Mills is looking for a teacher to take over a thriving culinary arts program. This position includes instruction in Culinary I, Culinary II, Culinary III, and Unified Culinary, providing students with hands-on experience in food preparation, nutrition, kitchen safety, and hospitality industry practices.  This program has historically included students who are looking to continue their culinary training beyond high school.  The ideal candidate will foster a safe, inclusive, and engaging learning environment that supports both career readiness and life skills development.

 

Qualifications:              

 

The ideal candidate will have in-depth knowledge and experience in a combination of the following areas: 

 

  • CT Endorsement 045.
  • Background in culinary education.
  • Ability to build basic skills for students as well as creative projects and programs.
  • Provide a classroom environment focused on teamwork and group projects.
  • A strong focus on a variety of global cuisines and student agency.
  • Strong classroom management skills and organizational structures.
  • Strong collaboration with other teachers and groups within the school.
  • Commitment to inclusive education and working with diverse student populations.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with staff and support student success.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan and deliver standards-based instruction in Culinary I–III and Unified Culinary.
  • Develop and implement engaging, hands-on lessons that align with state and national FACS standards.
  • Maintain a safe and sanitary kitchen lab environment, ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations.
  • Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse needs of learners, including students in Unified Culinary.
  • Collaborate with colleagues, families, and community partners to enhance program offerings.
  • Integrate career exploration, employability skills, and industry certifications where applicable.
  • Participate in professional development and school-wide initiatives.

Preferred Skills:

  • ServSafe certification or willingness to obtain.
  • Experience with Unified programs or inclusive education.
  • Familiarity with industry trends and post-secondary pathways in culinary arts.
