4-H AmeriCorps Member

Overview:

AmeriCorps members serve communities by addressing critical needs like academic achievement, youth mentoring, and disaster preparedness. As a 4-H AmeriCorps member, you’ll provide direct service by implementing STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math) programs through camps and in-school/out-of-school enrichment activities.

This role is ideal for gap year students, stay-at-home parents, college students, or anyone seeking flexible service and professional development opportunities.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Host STEM based day camps
  • Attend monthly AmeriCorps resource meetings
  • Engage five volunteers in program activities
  • Manage program supplies and equipment
  • Collect data for program evaluation, including attendance and youth assessments
  • Submit reports such as timesheets, program evaluations, and activity logs
  • Attend AmeriCorps orientation and training during the first week of service
  • Participate in two AmeriCorps National Service projects
  • Develop and maintain community partnerships with the host site
  • Promote activities through flyers, social media, or presentations
  • Communicate regularly with the Site Supervisor and Program Director

Non-Essential Functions:

  • Select professional development training relevant to personal growth.
  • Plan and lead service projects with youth and community members.
  • Develop STEAM curriculum.
  • Attend trainings as requested.
  • Support host site staff and engage in community activities.
  • Serve as a 4-H leader or event volunteer.

Qualifications:

  • 17+ years old
  • U.S. citizen, national, or lawful permanent resident
  • High school diploma/GED
  • Eligible under the National Service Criminal History Check
  • Able to travel for AmeriCorps and site training and service
  • Outgoing and comfortable working with youth, adults, and volunteers
  • Self-motivated, independent, and professional
  • Previous teaching or instructional experience is preferred

Benefits:

  • Living Allowance: $12,500.0 (paid bi-weekly in $520.83 allotments)
  • Segal Education Award: $3,697.35 upon successful completion
  • Professional development training and hands-on experience

Service Terms:

  • 450 total service hours over 16 weeks
  • 18-20 hours per week
  • Must wear AmeriCorps gear while serving
  • Valid driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle
