Location: Remote or Liberia-based (with possible field visits)
Commitment: 8–15 hours per week (flexible)

The West Africa Volunteers Development Initiative (WAVDI) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering communities across West Africa through volunteerism, youth empowerment, and sustainable development initiatives. Our programs address critical issues such as education, women and girls’ empowerment, economic development, health, and environmental sustainability.
We work with local and international partners to create impactful, community-driven solutions that foster resilience and equitable growth across the region.
Position Summary
WAVDI is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Research Officer to support the organization’s efforts in data collection, research, and program development. The Research Officer will play a key role in gathering evidence, analyzing trends, and producing reports that strengthen WAVDI’s advocacy, fundraising, and programmatic strategies.
This role is ideal for someone passionate about research, development, and using data to drive social change.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct research on community needs, social issues, and development trends relevant to WAVDI’s focus areas (education, youth empowerment, women’s leadership, health, etc.)
- Collect and analyze qualitative and quantitative data to support project proposals, reports, and advocacy campaigns
- Develop and maintain a database of research findings, statistics, and potential funding opportunities
- Draft research briefs, reports, and fact sheets for internal use, stakeholders, and donors
- Collaborate with program teams to integrate research findings into project design and impact measurement
- Monitor policies, regional trends, and donor priorities to inform WAVDI’s strategic initiatives
- Support grant writing and fundraising efforts by providing data, case studies, and evidence to strengthen proposals
- Attend virtual meetings and provide research support for partnership engagements and donor presentations
Qualifications
- Strong interest in international development, community empowerment, and nonprofit work
- Excellent research, analytical, and writing skills
- Familiarity with data analysis tools (Excel, Google Sheets, or basic statistical software)
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a remote environment
- Good communication and organizational skills
- Background in Social Sciences, Development Studies, Public Policy, Economics, or a related field (preferred but not required)
- Experience in preparing research reports, proposals, or policy briefs is a plus
