Environmental Planning Intern

This position will support water-related planning efforts in DVRPC’s Office of Climate and Environment. The selected candidate will learn about various aspects of environmental planning while contributing to impactful work addressing critical water infrastructure challenges in Southeastern Pennsylvania. Tasks may include research, data collection and analysis, case study development, interviews with regional partners, report writing, and meeting and webinar preparation.
Responsibilities
- Conduct desktop research related to challenges facing small water systems, utility regionalization, and/or collaboration, and financing options to address aging infrastructure.
- Refine case studies of communities that have participated in the Funding Navigator program, including conducting interviews and drafting case studies.
- Create a final product to be shared publicly, either on the website or in a webinar. Compile case studies, desktop research, and other resources to be shared digitally.
- Help organize a forum for municipal and water utility stakeholders to explore joint solutions to common problems.
- Support the ongoing work of the Office of Climate and Environment.
Qualifications
- Interest and experience in regional planning, environmental science, and/or water resource management and infrastructure planning.
- Ability to perform in-depth research independently, including conducting interviews.
- Ability to interpret and display data.
- Excellent writing, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and be self-motivated.
- Proficiency in the Google Suite is required, and experience with GIS and Adobe Suite is a plus.
Availability
The ability to start on September 2nd, 2025 is preferred. This is a hybrid, part-time position that requires a commitment of 7.5 to 15 hours per week.
Compensation
Interns currently pursuing or holding a Bachelor’s degree will be paid $17 per hour. Those currently pursuing or holding a Master’s degree will receive $20 per hour. Students with Work-Study funding are encouraged to apply.
Minimum Education and Training
Must have completed at least one year of a college/university program or be enrolled in a master's program (preferred), or an equivalent combination of experience and training, plus substantial experience, interest, or involvement in environmental planning.
