Part-time Hourly - Work hours typically will not exceed 19 hours a week. Maximum yearly limit is 999 work hours in a fiscal year (July-June).
Part-time Regular - Work hours will be 25 hours or more per week.
We are hiring immediately for 6 Part-time Hourly vacancies and 1 Part-time Regular vacancy. All part-time, temporary, and seasonal workers are at-will employees.
Per the Part-time Memorandum of Understanding (MOU):
- Part-time Hourly employees are eligible for retirement benefits.
- Part-time Regular employees are eligible for health and retirement benefits.

What We Do
The Community Services Department provides exceptional recreational, educational, cultural, and social services to the community to enhance and maintain a high quality of life in Beverly Hills. The Community Services Department consists of Administrative Support, Arts & Culture Division, Beverly Hills Public Library, Farmers' Market, Greystone Mansion & Gardens, and the Recreation and Parks Division. The Recreation and Parks Division is responsible for providing recreation and enrichment programs for all ages, parks and community center programming and management, and community events, sports, and aquatics activities. The Division also manages the Joint Powers Agreement with the Beverly Hills Unified School District and operates the historic Greystone Mansion and Estate. The Division maintains diverse and innovative recreation and cultural programming and services for the community.

In this role, you’ll have the opportunity to engage directly with the public while providing support for a variety of recreational programs, events, and activities.
As a key member of our team, you’ll handle a variety of tasks including registration for classes and reservations, processing payments, maintenance of the tennis courts, customer inquiries and enforcing community center rules. You’ll play an essential part in ensuring the smooth operation of our vibrant community centers.

Candidates who meet the minimum qualifications and whose interests and experience appear to meet the desired qualifications of the position will be invited to participate in the next steps of the recruitment process which may include:

Conviction History
As a finalist for a job, you will be fingerprinted, and your fingerprints will be sent to the California Department of Justice (DOJ), the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), and the California Department of Social Services (CDSS). The resulting report of your conviction history (if any) will be used to determine whether the nature of your conviction (or arrest, in limited circumstances) conflicts with the specific duties and responsibilities of the job for which you are a finalist. Having a conviction history does not automatically preclude you from a job with the City. If you are selected as a finalist, you will be contacted to schedule a fingerprinting appointment.

Disaster Service Workers
All City of Beverly Hills employees are designated Disaster Service Workers through state and local law (California Government Code Section 3100-3109). Employment with the City requires the affirmation of a loyalty oath to this effect. Employees are required to complete all Disaster Service Worker-related training as assigned, and to return to work as ordered in the event of an emergency.
Major Duties
EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES - Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Register patrons, in person or online, for a variety of events, classes, or programs using the City’s registration software program.
- Receive, process, and reconcile payments by cash, credit, and check.
- Provide customer service in person and by phone, answering questions regarding department programs and events.
- Maintain accurate records and reports, and may balance cash drawers and receipts.
- Report to supervisor or designee needed repairs to facility or equipment.
- Prepare class rosters; communicate with instructors and attendees.
- Assist with facility rentals.
- Perform tennis court and pickleball court set-up; may assist with set-up of other activities, including tables and chairs, at City recreation facilities.
- Assist new or existing staff in learning departmental practices, protocols, methods and procedures.
- Assist in planning, preparing, and implementing new or upgraded software as needed.
- Build and maintain positive working relationships with co-workers, other City employees, City vendors, and the public using principles of good customer service.
- Foster an environment that embraces diversity, integrity, trust, and respect.
- Be an integral team player, which involves flexibility, cooperation, and communication.
- Perform related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Experience and Training
Any combination of experience and training that would provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required knowledge and abilities would be:
Experience:
Two years of responsible customer service experience.
Training:
Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade.
License and Certificate:
Possession of, or ability to obtain, valid CPR certification within 60 days of hire.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Knowledge of:
- Methods and techniques of cash handling.
- Basic mathematical calculations.
- Registration software programs is desirable.
Ability to:
- Provide exceptional customer service in relation to processing registration for a variety of City recreation activities.
- Perform cash handling and reconciliation.
- Use sound judgment in recognizing scope of authority.
- Operate and use modern office equipment including computers and applicable software.
- Maintain regular attendance and adhere to prescribed work schedule to conduct job responsibilities.
- Utilize appropriate safety procedures and practices for assigned duties.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
- Work with various cultural and ethnic groups in a tactful and effective manner.
- Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
