Position Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled and hands-on General Manager to lead the full range of operations at Tomichi Materials. This individual will be responsible for production, personnel, safety, financial performance, compliance, customer and vendor relations, and equipment management. The ideal candidate combines operational and leadership strengths with strong mechanical knowledge, a safety-first mindset, and the ability to build and sustain customer and vendor relationships.
This position reports directly to the ownership group.
Key Responsibilities & Essential Functions
- Provide overall leadership in the development and execution of the company’s financial and operational plan, including long-range, mid-range, and short-range planning
- Oversee all site personnel
- Oversee and optimize all aspects of daily operations, including aggregate production and concrete batching
- Lead and develop staff across plant, pit, and office functions; manage hiring, training, and performance
- Promote a strong safety culture and adherence to all permits and applicable local, state, and federal safety and environmental regulations
- Maintain and manage mobile and fixed plant equipment, including crushers, washers, loaders, excavators, conveyors, delivery trucks, and batch systems
- Coordinate equipment repairs, preventative maintenance, and vendor engagement for critical servicing
- Monitor and control operational costs, margins, job costing, pricing, and overall financial performance
- Foster positive relationships and effective communication with employees, customers, suppliers, and community stakeholders
- Develop and implement business development and marketing strategies to grow sales and customer loyalty
- Develop and manage operational and capital budgets
- Develop, track, and report on operational and financial performance metrics, including production, sales, costs, and safety metrics
- Provide regular operational and financial reports to ownership and assist in strategic decision-making
Qualifications
- Minimum 5–10 years of management experience in aggregate, concrete, mining, or construction materials industries
- Strong working knowledge of heavy equipment operations and maintenance
- Resourcefulness and proactivity in solving equipment and operational issues, including vendor coordination
- Demonstrated leadership in personnel management, safety culture, and customer service
- Working knowledge of Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) regulations applicable to surface aggregate operations; current MSHA Part 46 training required or must be obtained promptly; must be eligible and willing to serve as the company’s designated MSHA “Competent Person” for training and compliance
- Proven experience managing budgets, financial reporting, and business planning, with proficiency in QuickBooks
- Strong, effective communication, interpersonal, and team leadership skills
- Skilled in using common business software and communication platforms for daily operations (e.g., Zoom) for communication, scheduling, and reporting
- Marketing or business development experience beneficial
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering, Construction Management, or related field preferred, or equivalent industry experience
Physical Requirements
- This position involves a combination of office-based and field-based work, including time at a desk or computer, use of phones, participation in video conferences, and on-site supervision of operations.
- Regular exposure to loud noise, dust, vibrations, heavy equipment, moving machinery, and uneven or rough terrain.
- Must be able to walk, stand, crouch, or climb on uneven surfaces in a mining or construction environment.
- Occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds may be required; must be able to perform basic physical tasks associated with operations
- Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) may be required in designated work areas.
Compensation and Benefits
The compensation package for this position reflects Colorado-based market expectations and is commensurate with the candidate’s experience and qualifications. It typically includes:
- Base salary in the range of $80,000 – $120,000. This range reflects the expected base pay for this role in Colorado. Actual compensation will be based on skills, experience, qualifications, and other job-related factors.
