Student Research Assistant

Department:  University of Colorado – Anschutz Medical Campus - OB/GYN

Job Title: Youth Co-Investigator

Job Location: Anschutz Medical Campus 

 

Position Purpose: The Youth Co-Investigators (2) will be full partners within the study team developing best practices to maximize Youth Engagement in research advisory boards. The Youth Co-investigator will provide input on overarching study design throughout the three year project, with a particular focus on incorporating the lived experience of youth as research partners. 

Job Description:  Activities will include participation in weekly study team meetings, development of focus group agenda and questions tailored to teens, assist in facilitation of focus groups and subsequent Delphi processes, development of best practice guides for focus groups, analysis of impact of practice guides provided to new and existing focus groups, and dissemination of content and findings to the larger community, especially youth patient stakeholders and youth advisory board professionals.  Youth co-investigators will play an integral role in optimizing engagement with participating teens and assuring the final product prioritizes youth engagement on new and existing advisory boards.

This role is intended to bring a youth perspective to the investigator team for this study. 

 

Eligibility Requirements: 

  • Must be a currently enrolled as a high school student, an undergraduate degree-seeking student in Colorado 
  • Leadership experience among peers
  • Experience working collaboratively with adults (e.g., as student council members, sports team captain, community advisor, or class leadership positions) 

 

Preferred experiences: 

  • Experience on research teams for biomedical and health services research (e.g., serving as a youth advisor, student assistant, or other role on a research team in an academic, clinical, or community-based research setting)
  • Experience with youth engagement in research and/or youth advisory boards.

 

Length of Employment: Year-Round Availability, average of 3-5 hours/week, or 10-20 hours per month 

 

Remarks: The Student Assistant commits to showing up for work diligently and punctually, honesty, performing assigned tasks, following directions, taking initiative, reliability, confidentiality, checking work for thoroughness and accuracy with attention to detail, and interest in learning new skills, especially mandatory computer skills. 

 

We recognize that youth in these roles are students first. We will schedule meetings and responsibilities accordingly to prioritize school and extracurricular responsibilities while balancing the responsibilities of this role.
